my first log...closet case

this is my second grow,the first was 30 years ago,(1 plant 6 ft. 0 buzz)with little idea on how to do it...going over the forums prompted me to try again,i went into it this time armed for bear(w/bagseed)...results are very positive...(for me)...just now developing 4th nodes,i'm using 8 cfl's(4x27w+4x23w)...for a total of 13,400 lumins...2 weeks or so..i'm upping that to 19,100,with a ballast light(t8)5,700 lumins,for my veg period....next stage...to tip,or not to tip...thats the question...anybody?

Since your using cfl, topping or LST,or both is the best way to go. Or scrog. That way the canopy stays nice and low cuz cfl does not penatrate very far. Any pics?

i know what topping is,the cut after the 4th node..(wait till a good fith node forms first,right?)scrog,i understand,have some good screen(1.50x1.50mesh) question is,when do you apply it?...18in. 2ft.?..and what is LST?and are nutes really gonna help my bagseed plants?if so,when should i start hitting them with the stuff?...and what am i enhancing?...growth or potency...i got a folder full of pics,from a camera phone,soon as i figure it out,or i get another 36 posts or so,you can see 'em too::smokin:

The idea is to keep the plant low and uniform to your lights and space. Works great. I even did it on my outdoor, just cause:stoned:

Top her, let it go a couple weeks meanwhile bending her over:D:D:D:D

Tie her up from all fours and let her go a couple more weeks and then flip the lights on her, she'll freak:wtf::wtf:

What type of soil are you using? Like stomp said start them off at a low strength and work your way up, but if your soil has nutes already,hold off about three weeks. And canni knows his P's and Q's about scrog.

the soil is Miracle -Gro,moisture control....has nutes in it...supposed to feed for 6 months(ya,i know thats bull)but when do i add nutes?..going to Sea of Green tonight(plant food)...any suggestions??anybody???...Upped my lights today...19,100lm...plants healthy...all working on first set of 5 fingers...1 month into this project....topping,middle of next week...still takin pics,will post soon...(hey...i'm 53,learning new stuff ain't easy,to me ,click and drag ,is something to do with fishing:lol5:)

I used the same soil on my outdoor, fed um fish emulsion all summer long, towards the end I started using maxibloom and mole asses. Flushed for a week and all was well. Go light as to not burn um till later on when your soil starts to weaken:thumbsup:

if you look at my album page,you'll see my current grow status(+or- an inch or so)...got a few questions...i swear to christ,i stick my nose in the plant and i swear i can smell skunk,but i know they are common bag seeds,there's not a chance in hell i ever bought overpriced weed,couldn't ever afford it...possible?...do males have the same smell?should i turn a fan on them?i leave the door open during the day,and i'm constantly checking on them,AND C02....when do they need it?and can't i evaporate dry ice above them,and channel it into their pots?my current plan:topping(when its time)...recovery...LST,until i feel comfortable to veg....(i really hope they show their sex by then)....then SCROG and feed til full(slowly)....these plants are filling out nicely,progress is totally acceptably(for firsties)just found my digital camera,soon as i find the cable that goes with it, i'll put some clear pics up...oh,and here's a rant...overpriced weed...ya we appreciate ur efforts,but anything over 1,000 a lb.is just plain robbery,me and Mrs.Marley will NEVER buy into it,regular goods have served us for decades,and maybe my new hobby will help with that and with any luck,laws will be rescinded, decriminalizing it,......we can only hope......:smokin:

This is possible. Bagseeds are just unknown strains. Can be a great one, or lame. You never know until you grow.

thanks Tevfik..i appreciate the response....i thought a fan was needed also...didn't wanna hurry into it,been reading about "wind burn" from fans,so was a little leary...gonna start that this morning...i been reading alot about "PH" control,as a small grower should i be major concerned about it? i use purified water,and in a month(or less)i'm transplanting to 5 gal. buckets,with all new soils,they should only be in the last stage(buckets) 1-2 months before harvest(right?)Do i need to get a "ph"moniter? i'm not ready to produce"techno-weed(yet)i wanna make sure that i have the basics down pat before i start dumping money into it,(us old timers,on a budget,can't really afford the,500$ light setup,the timers,the monitering systems,expensive wiring,)so we babysit them...AND,i know i said it before,but,is it ...TOPPING before LST...or LST before TOPPING?,you see my plants are only,4-7 inches tall...thanks guys......:smokin:

A fan is needed here. You can use in low level or a small fan. If you have a big one, you can place it higher on bulbs level and only bottom of fan will be blowing air to the plants. That doesn't hurt. Or you can just point it to the bulbs, some air will come to the plants anyway. I'm using two 12cm PC fans for intake and outtake. And two low speed 8cm pc fans inside for circulation. Looking enough to me.

Soil based mediums have automatic PH buffering and that can take you 2-3 months. In your case you may not need to balance it but knowing your PH will make you sure for your next step.
You can use ph strips or solutions if you're not color blinded. They are cheap and they do work. I have PH solutions and with that its possible to major directly soil PH. You don't need expensive tools as a small grower.

Actually you don't need topping with LSD. But people do both, i don't know how much it effects but i believe, only LST is enough and also topping causes much more stress. Plants need time for recovery, this mean more 18 hours of light and costs you more money and more effort. I don't think it gives an average yield if you consider in this range.
Of course you can do both. Your choice. Right now you need a little more time for start training.

For pictures, go to your album, open the picture, right click on it and choose properties or image info (depends on browser). There you'll see the address. Copy the address and when you're typing here, there is a yellow icon showing mountains and if you go over it says "insert image". Click it and paste your url there. That's all. (Preview post before sending to see if its working.)
Or wait until you sent 50 post then you'll be able to attach easily.

well all 5 survived,and have actually bounced back,i gave them diluted nutes,(my "nutes"are miracle-gro..the blue crystals...at 1/5 strength)before i left,slammed them into 18/6,sleep schedule,hit them with 120 ml of water twice a day,(i only use purified water)and despite being ugly as hell,they are kickin...steady new growth...the plants matrix doesn't appear to be damaged,however,all the tops were "chewed on"... i had to "TOP"two of them due to damage,the other three,...leaf damage is all over,i left them all on,reading about how they were "factories"for the plant,nothing has died yet,all the leaves are standing up(even damaged ones)...no yellowing,nothing...:thumbsup:...so,i'm transplanting this week(5 gal buckets)and i'm upping the lumins to 24,800lm....(4x23+4x27+4xt8)...and more than likely start LST...and now it looks like i have to get a pencil and paper to override a computer program:S2:...gotta love technology

last night i transplanted the 3 largest to 5 gal buckets...leaves standing up this morning:thumbsup:during the sleep period(9am-3pm)i'll add 1 more t8 light...2950x2 lm....these 3 get 1.5 liters of 1/5 diluted nutes twice daily...in a week, i'll drop to 2 liters, 1 time a day...these plants are so goddam ugly,i wont take any more pics,until they look better...which may be never...:(
i won't cut ANY leaves off,('cause their not dying)so i'm stuck with,very ugly plants...so i'll go blow a few bowls with them,(i got high with ugly chicks before,:S2:).....Tevfik...i'm dedicating this morning "sesh" to you ...thanks for the help!!

with all the growers getting really great crops,its not easy to choose whats gonna be good for you,or what you like...that being said(puff,puff)i've decided to cancel the SoG AND the LST for this grow..instead, i'm gonna bush it out,the growth is really good,the undergrowth(because i try to optimize light placement)is exceptional...so i'm keeping them down,and fat...i expect these three plants to take up my entire closet lower half(2wx8hx8l),so it may be 2-3 months before i think about flowering(exhale)...looks like i better get a PH pen,as this looks to take awhile,and my chemistry will go ASKEW(lewis black)...probably a water meter too,as i've over/under watered them...with a 5 gal bucket..its hard to check dry weight vs wet weight,when the plants only a foot tall:wtf:

the three 5-gal plants you see are in density training...most of the destroyed leaves are gone,and its being flooded with light,all over...the one closest to you,has been topped,(1-24-11)its response will dictate the course of the other two(can u say Bonsai?)undergrowth is real good,9 finger leaves all over,visible day to day growth on plants as a whole......those two smaller ones(lower right) my dog chewed them down to nubs, i decided to try and save them...trimmed everything damaged(most of the plant) and topped them,now they look like nice little plants again,(3 weeks later)...maybe good as a secondary harvest.....stomper...got you covered as i type:thumbsup:

Too bad it wasn't Co genetics,.... but then most of what we've got here came from cali anyway. There is a breeder here who's working on some blueberry crosses trying to get something that works really well up here with the high and dry climate,... Haven't heard any spectacular reviews of any of his stuff just yet.

well i transplanted the last of my plants(the ones the dog chewed)...and they've exploded,and looks like they are going to pass up the other three:D...so that makes 5 in veg...18/6...33,400lm....not bad,however i germinated 3 northern cali strain seeds,2 have cracked open,showing root shoots...maybe t-plant today/tomorrow...gonna make a small mobile grow box,as i like to keep seedlings on 24/0 for a month or so...but i got high hopes for this run...after smokin bagweed for 35 years,this should be a real treat,an if it is...clone clone clone...my old lady is SO lucky we don't have a garage................:smokin:

i really don't know...i'd say that pic #1 and #5 are indica...the other three are sativa....although,i think the one i topped ,is an indo/sativa cross,(not pictured)...as far as veggin time,2-3 weeks,maybe more...i only remember the plant time..2 months ago i planted these seeds...uncracked...everybody's still under a foot tall,but bushing very nicely,i think at 2 feet,i'll start the flower stage....and heres a pic of the one i topped...4 days ago....:smokin:

when i first started out,the closet was perfect....now,with just 5 plants,room is fading fast.and i want to put in more lights..and whats gonna happen when the flower cycle starts??...no,the closet just ain't cuttin it...so,i'm building a small 4'x6'x8' grow box...using two walls and the ceiling,,i'm gonna get some carbon activated furnace filters,(from H.D.)and cover the intake/exhaust holes,and force air thru them...a side perk,is,i'll be able to control the odors,...a major concern of mine since this project started...i'll put up pics,when the construction starts...:smokin:

I am right there with you boss! I am 46 now, never grown a single stem...yet. Starting a new project very soon. When I started $20.00 got me a sandwhich bag full of what was called pot then. Now I find myself thanking my friends for selling me 1/8's for $60.00. I smoke one a week so for 4 weeks of smoking I can have the money to grow my own and have as much as I can grow.

Anyway it is nice to see I am not the lone newbie old timer here!:thumbsup:

ya..that over-priced weed never set right with me...10$ "lids"..80$lbs...thats the world i grew up in...then, BAM,the law forced us underground,driving the price up like a race car,sure it tastes great,pretty powerful too,from what i hear...but i'm annoyed at payin 100$ oz...much less astronomical prices...so for about 150$(i'm a tight ass)...i made my own set-up(you know you can throw thousands at a system,but it's just me and the mrs),and if i can harvest 3 lbs a YEAR,and never have to hunt it down or drive with it commin home,i'd be right pleased....good luck to you and your grow:thumbsup:

space has been limited,and since i got the new light(mh/hps 400),heat is a problem,and oder control will be a problem,so i hooked up a side job,for some extra funds,and i'm building a containment/envireomental chamber(ya,a box)...6'x6'x8'...lined with mylar(already here)and carbon/charcoal exhausted...WITH,complimentary seedling/clone chamber attached:thumbsup:...here's what it looks like before...next few posts,framing,siding,and a general squirrelin around of the room,..notice the co2 generator hangin high dispensin free co2....and the 2 northern cali/oregon are growin fast

Nice grow you got goin! Just wondering if you thought about moving your larger plants closer together to form a canopy and use the cfl's as side lighting as opposed to top. This way you can get your HID lamp lower and closer to your babies. Better light concentration, better buds.....

so...the closet got to small(big surprise)and flowering plants are stone nose trouble(we all know),seeing all the tents and growboxes,having sucess,i went along with them,built my own for $50(i'm a tight ass)now i get to overcome my heat,air movement and smell problems,not a problem,looking forward to it...:thumbsup:...already know what i want,(vertical light with cooltube and parabolic reflector,exhausted by squirrel cage blower venting into carbon scrubber)just gotta raise funds.....anyway,heres the current pics,1 week into flower(funny thing is,i don't really give a shit about this crop,it's bagseed,but i do consider it a valuable trainer,the good crop is in the veg box next to it)
