Not having enough $$$$$ to do a ton of experimenting I can't really say.

What I can say is that my girls simply LOVE my Hortilux "Blue" MH that I use for vege!

I was originally hesitant to spend $130 on a 400w bulb,... but after looking at the spectrum of what I had that I wasn't happy with and the spectrum of the rest of them,....... well... I figured why not.

I'm happy with the investment! :D

Once the HPS bulbs that I've got (plant max) start to wear out, I'm tempted to try a Horilux and see if I can get better results in flower on the same scale as I saw in vege!

I'm still a bit torn on wether or not my LED was a good investment, I need to get a couple more grows under it before I can actually say much.

I use the Hortilux HPS and the MH Blue. My next choice would be Sunmaster..

Hortilux for HPS Sunmaster and Hortilux for veg.

Yes, the higher priced bulbs are worth the money, I tried buying cheap MH bulbs and replace them more often...I still got stretching and it was obvious that the Sunmaster and Hortilux are superior in many ways.

Hi All and thanks for your responses, here's the main reason I'm asking this question, I'm CHEAP!! I recentaly met a guy who's been growing for many years (over 20 years) and he told me that years ago eye hortilux was the "bomb" when it came to bulbs! but that over the last 5 years or so other company's have designed and built better performing bulbs then hortilux and some of them do it for half the money!!

He SWEARS hortilux lives off there name!! he named a couple brands off the top of his head and 1 of the names I rememberd him saying was plantmax! it's a great example!! I'm looking at a 600 watt HPS for a electronic ballast! http://www.gladiatorlighting.com/pro...ULB-2000K.html the cheapest price I can find the hortilux for is on the internet for $86.47+ shipping (just over $95 shipped) Eye Hortilux 600 Watt Super HPS Lamp : Grow Light Supply (http://www.growlightsupply.com/eye-h...lamp-p-97.html) and all the hydro shops here want retail $129.99+ tax!!!!

Looking at the specs isn't the plantmax a BETTER value and a BETTER light?? the plantmax bulb offers longer life! (almost double) and 2000 more lumens!! at much less money!!! I was told by several people that I was going to go through bulbs once every 8-12 months? and if so why spend the extra money?? one could literally buy 2 of the plantmax's for the cost of 1 hortilux! am I missing something?? thanks again.

Like I said, I tried the less expensive bulbs. The PAR light...the light the plants need to grow, some of which we cannot see.....falls off quicker in the knockoffs. The bulb life most mfg's talk about is before the bulb fails, I change bulbs well before any of them fail.

I am a real cheapskate. I wire my own house, I haven't paid for a haircut in 20 years and keep it cut short, I blunder through any home repairs, force family to do stuff I cannot....ok? I am one cheap assed dude.

Pay the fucking money for a good bulb because that is why the plants can grow.

To put it bluntly :rastasmoke: :D
