This last Tuesday i shattered my wrist snowboarding. (yes i am writing this one handed lol) This upcoming tuesday i have a surgical procedure where they put a metal plate with screws in my wrist. When i asked the nurses whether or not i could smoke pot the following days before my surgery they became angry and told me no then proceeded to give me the its illegal speech. Well i did some research and really got no answers on whether i should wait. Im unsure also whether or not i should wait a while after the surgery because i dont want to create any issues. I am currently on vicodin and it makes me soooo sick. I cant wait to dump the crap pain killers and go with somthing that actually works. Thanks everybody for your input.:D

Former RN here. If you are having anesthesia, you should not use pot before at least a day or so, before your surgery - especially if you smoke it. Smoking anything in any way is bad before having anesthesia. And, pot can alter your BP and HR, which increases your risks during surgery.
When you get home, follow their discharge instructions, and when you are not using Vocodin (or something like it) you can resume your usual activities.

Thanks so much! That was the answer I was looking for. I have not smoked in 2 days and my surgery is coming up so I just won't smoke till after. Thank you again for your help.

It has been a week 1/2 and i am doing fairly well. My doctor told me to not smoke for just about a week and i followed his orders. I also have psoriasis so the norcos (painkillers)made me verrry itchy so it was nice to cut back on them. I get my full arm cast Friday finally. I want to thank you again for your help and concerns. Means alot to me when I havent had much support through this.
