Am I being cheated on pay?

I moved out to the northern california area back in september to live with a friend and help him with his grow. I have about a year and a half's experience with my smaller grows of 3-6 plants at a time and im no pro,but I make the work put in show. My friend had been out here for the last 6 months learning how to grow, finally got his own house and asked me to come out and move in to help him take care of everything. I do my fair share of work,cleaning out tables, trimming, watering, cloning, helping transplant,refilling reservoirs and know alot about pest control. Well we trimmed a couple weeks back and we had a VERY good first harvest (6 and a half pounds) then 3 ounces off a tiny grape ape we stuck in for shits and giggles. Between him,his dad and me,we had that all trimmed and hung in 3 days with a good 14 hours or more.

I was only paid 140$ for all of that work, and I wont be seeing a penny more it looks like. . I know he will get the lions share as he owns the house and such but for the amount of work I put in this seems pretty unfair/low pay. Especially considering he asks me give him 20$ every time for grocerys, or that I had to spend my whole 140 on grocerys. Lucky I have extra cash or else I'd be sunk on meds as he took 2/3 of our personal and said oh no dont touch the rest I wanna cure it more. Is this a fair amount of pay or should I try and see if I'll get a little more? Or should I make my plans to leave and move home by the time he gets back?

Your friend doesn't sound like much of a friend. IMHO

However, this is why it is always good policy to make sure that compensation is specified and agreed upon before the work is performed. Even with friends.

Actually, especially with friends since this is the kind of thing that can end friendships.

Sorry I've had some teeth problem the last week or so. Tooth is infected or some crap so i've been feeling it in my whole jaw but I asked him whats up. He was like Oh well i mentioned you not trimming at a 10/hour speed so thats why you were only paid 7 an hour. However he was saying "well if there's anything more you wanna do for hours to make money just let me know.We wont let you get into any debt or anything." Im wondering if I should pack up and go home anyway, Just would be shitty after all that work to get my id's and card.

Sounds like the old slave fruit picking camps a few years back in the 80s in the south. Get you in hock at the company/picker camp store and you're stuck. I hope you can find an honest employer if that's what you want to do. I don't know how much you're expected to trim to make $10 an hour, but a deal is a fucking deal. :wtf:

Yeah I think im planning on dipping out as well,this small town sucks as well. I think we both had some big misunderstandings on everything. Mine were the whole money issue as far as what Im being paid. He didnt explain everything out as clear as he thought on what I'd be doing and making money. He is trying to help me out asking what else I'd like to do for hours for money. Not sure if that's just him trying to be nice or what.

To be honest, I can relate to what you're encountering. Just when you think things are turning around, someone drops a bullshit bomb. I'm finding honest people are becoming few and very far between. I don't know if its a generational thing or what, but its getting more fucked up all the time. I'm in the mood to shove the sort end up the next person's ass and impale who tries to pull some shit on me when I play fair and square an be as honest as I can possibly be. Circumstances change, but if everything is on the up and up, the deal comes out square. :twocents:

That sucks, had that happen and have to go to dentist on MLK day and for some reason no lace was open. Decided it was important I go that day when I ran out of rum..
