Hi all.
This is my first post. Long time reader, etc etc. I am in Melbourne (Australia). Summer has just started here.
A combination of my personal appreciation of cannabis (coupled with curiosity / constant difficulty in obtaining this item) has led me to try growing.
Trouble is, I only have one seedling; the seed came from a random bag of bought-product. I planted in a cup of soil, and it sprouted. So, I'm aware that information regarding strain etc will be pretty much impossible, but if I were to guess (based on literally MINUTES of research on google images), I would suggest Indica of some sort [?].
BUT ANYWAY. I am attempting to try and grow this INSIDE my apartment. Sitting on my window ledge, using natural sunlight. I have the window-pane covered in thick plastic, so you cannot see the shape of the plant from the outside.
And, yes- I am aware that there is a better than good chance this plant will turn out to be a male. But, nevertheless, I will keep it going for three more weeks in vegetative state, and then introduce 12 hours of darkness (via a cardboard box place over it at night time).
Really, I am only doing this as an interesting experiment, so if it doesn't turn out (which it almost certainly won't), I will not be too disappointed- however, if it succeeds, and I end up with something to smoke, I will be very happy!
But anyway, here are the pictures:
Number 1 is the 7 day old seedling.
2 is an 'artistic shot' of the seedling against the skyline (amazing, I know).
Picture 3 is my plant in it's current stage - about 18 days.
SO, we will see how this turns out!!

if the seed came from a bag of good weed and there was only one seed chances are it is a female or hermi.not male...you want to give it alot of light for the first few weeks then put it in ur windowsill to flower...but i would say what ur doing now is just fine but wont yeild much of anything....plants need at least 3 weeks of veg time.....but ppl get yeilds from 12/12 so just let it do its thing..good luck

Hi.
So, here we are, now 30 days old.
However, a couple of VERY bad things happened to my poor little plant.
Firstly: The pot fell from the side of my bed about ten days ago, ripping the plant out by the roots. I discovered it sitting there, limp and (panicking hugely) shoved her back in the dirt. F***. The leaves curled slightly overnight, but, miraculously, it recovered by the next day.
Secondly: I had aluminum foil wrapped around the exterior of the plan in an attempt to better harness the available sunlight (YES, I...NOW know that you aren't supposed do that). And, of course, during a blisteringly hot day, the sun focused it's rays on the leaves of my plant, burning a bunch of leaves and leaving hot spots.
OOPS.
So, essentially, it has been ripped up and burnt. But still surviving.
So, I've decided to call him/her 'Miracle Baby'.
Pictures below. Very small for 30 days, but this is kinda what I wanted- to keep it small. Notice the burnt leaves...

aww... she is a fighter to be sure! Keep sending her love. I am convinced that plants respond to our desires to care for them. Even after all she has gone through, she is looking good! I am suspecting some good genes in this one! :) ---Emmie

Thanks- I very much agree with the concept of plant awareness! I will keep giving her positivity.

get a little oscillating fan and have it gently blow on the plant. this will strengthen the stem and help circulate air.
The only way you could kill that plant is to rip the thing out of the ground! They call it weed because its hard to kill the shit.

Thanks for all the plant support! Yes, have been training the fan on it, and the stem seems strong.
So. Have started boxing him/her for 12 hours overnight. This has been happening for about a week now (yes, I know this is starting early, but again, trying to stay small), and the plant has started showing...something?
So, it's up to some guesses. Male or Female? My feeling is male, but I could easily be wrong. And yes, I know I could just wait a few days and be able to tell easily. But, thanks to the internet, I have the patience of a squirrel.
Pic 1. From above.
Pic 2. From the side.
Pic 3. Possible M/F pre-flower.

i would wait another week or so before you make any big decisions. Let the preflowers really mature so your 100% postive that its a male.
looks like a male though, but that would be jumping the gun............just keep on watching and waiting, things will become more pronounced. You can barely even see those preflowers so another week of developement will let you know for sure.

Progress:
Still slightly confused; looks alternatively male and female, so I am undecided.
Perhaps this will help answer. What do you think? Do these 'hairs' indicate a female?
Best.

Okay; so the boxing-every-night is starting to get monotonous.
But, when harvest time a'comes (hopefully soon?), I will have enough grass for the whole of winter. Which is good (I use cannabis to fully appreciate music/ allow myself to slow down and properly listen!).
Best,

SO, here we are.
Never thought this would actually happen (only ONE plant, no experience, trying to grow on a windowsill, force flowering with a box etc etc).
And it turned out to be a healthy girl.
Tomorrow is harvest day. I'm aware that it is somewhat early, but I have to go away for a while after tomorrow, so don't really have any choice.
But it is fine; I am interested in a head-high type of thing anyway. I will post pictures of the harvest (will not be very much end-product, but oh well- I only smoke two nights per week anyway, so it will last me a LONG time).

Hi all.
Sorry to take so long to post pictures of the harvest- I wanted to wait until I'd dried, cured and tried 'miracle baby'. Ha.
Firstly, cutting into her finally was semi-traumatic; but I managed, and spent an hour or so on my little plant, until my scissors were sticky and my hand was cramped (and this is on my tiny plant). I left the little leaves amongst the buds- not sure if everyone does this (looks less neat than commercial cannabis, I guess). And then hung up the buds for a week or so.
------------
The pictures tell the story of the drying process. I am sure some of you will be amused by how small my harvest is, but to me, this is the most weed I have ever had.
-----------
I waited about 3 weeks of drying before finally deciding to smoke some (a few days ago). The final picture shows my very first joint with her - on top of a framed leaf that I saved.
So, the smoking experience? Well: I was fairly anxious about trying my own grow- being an amateur at this, I figured there was a chance that it would taste like grass, hurt my throat, and get me merely dizzy.
BUT. This was not the case.
It tasted smooth; extremely smooth, with strong lemon aftertaste. It smelled great. I was smoking with a friend, and we both decided to take two or three puffs and then wait for a result before smoking more.
------------------
Well, let me tell you, I can modestly say that this was (officially) the strongest, loveliest stuff I have ever tried. Seriously. And I have tried a huge variety of stuff (I spent two weeks in Amsterdam etc).
We didn't even need another puff- didn't even get through a quarter of the (pictured) joint. It was a perfect, blissful, creative feeling- I just wanted to write, eat and listen/ make music for the rest of the night.
SO there you have it. I actually managed to do this properly. Amazed.
Thanks for everything,
Best, Ess.

Cool deal. Looks like some really nice smoke. Fresh weed grown in soil to full maturity is usually better than average. Cheers.
