Now i am in the process of researching leds and dude said dont go putting red and blue christmas lights in a box and expect to grow a forest.

obvious question for a newb like me.... would it help if i threw em in with my t5 bulbs?

Adding extra light usually is a good idea. There are guys here that get outstanding results with LEDs. Penetration is lacking with LEDs compared to HID so you wont grow tall plants like you could with HID.

You mean actual xmas lights? No that wont work...

Actual christmas LEDs might be the proper wavelength but they're nowhere near a truly usable intensity unless you could pack them in lite-brite tight. Good luck given all the wiring in the way!
