I have a Larger Grow room setup in the works in another location its alil far for me to be really be involved wit it much without driving across town.,but i wanted to have something small but something that could "MAYBE" give me 2OZ per plant?Lets see.Could some one else with more knowledge on how many Lumens this adds up to.Mind you i started this at 3pm today,With alot of help from my brother in law on this lil project.Lined with foil or now.I have 3 Sockets on each Side with a Y adapter in each Equaling 6 on each side For 12 Total on the sides,And 4 more CLFs hanging from the top so i can move them as i need and im gonna add a reflector to this and to the side bulbs.A Hinged Front flap door.I plan to run 2 plants and maybe 2 smaller babies or clones when i can or need. With the light low i have space to put small pots on top of the "hood".
Dimensions: N/A Yet.
Lighting:
16-26watt.1610Lumens(100 Watt Equiv.)...416Watts(Equiv.To 1600 Watts?)6500K CFL Bulbs.
Ventilation:Plan: 1-2 Fans at the top and have a passive air flow system with vents or even a small fan at the bottom.
Updates coming soon.Thx
Any Thoughts or Opinions..I already know CFLs wont put out what HPS and others can Yield wise, but this is all i ave space and funds for is a small project at my office.

Ok So we Wired the Side lights and the "hood" and im gonna finish connecting the 2 sides to the main line as well as wiring the "hood"to this. I Upgraded the "HooD ALil .I Cut Away wood that was not needed to allow more light to pass.and Then i lined it with this "Coin Finnish Duct Tape"and I added loop handles to the top to help adjust the "HOOD"s height.Im looking for ideas to make up a Reflector for the "hood" and smaller shield type reflectors for the side bulbs.Hope to have it Finished tomorrow sometime. And get a Clone or 2 to start with ASAP...HINT HINT...
Ventilation????
Whats the best way to run 2-4 5inch fans?1 or 2 up top blowing OUT.then 1 or 2 in the rear low center blowing IN.

Put two 80mm or 120mm fans up top blowing out then just cut one 40mm passive intake down low on each side.
Theres no need to have intake and exhaust fans.

Where could i find some fans that plug to sockets or ones i can run a plug onto?

IDK bout small PC type fans that plug directly into a socket. I just bought to 80mm High output PC fans and a 12v power adapter from RS, wired it up a plugged it in.
Maybe one of the small $6 fans from Wally World and cut the whole just right and tape it in?
4" flex duct fits nicely around 80mm PC fans too :D

Cool!
Make sure you dont overload the adapter, IDK how much it'll handle, gotta ask someone who knows more bout sparky than me.

if you add three fans to a 12 v adapter the fans will not move i bet. Fans that run at 12 V sometimes can run with a 9v adapter they just spin slower. Look around the house for old electronics with those adapters. cable modems, old answering machines for more adapters for each fan.

I've got two HO fans on one adapter and they run just fine. They run just as fast as the fans in my PC too.
It reads 60Hz 100mA if that helps. IDK what it was for, I just guessed it'd work when I bought it.
hghfly, what is the Hz and mA on the adapter you got?

so two fans, does that mean they are running on 6 volts a piece? Been sometime since I played with those fans and micro grows. will two fans split up the 12 volts? so you add another and the voltage drops 4 volts a fan?

:wtf:
:beatdeadhorse:
I told ya that already.
Actually, my first fan/adapter run was a DIY laptop cooling pad.
LOL I used a empty box that my MOBO came in and just cut holes where I wanted, used fat screws with washers to mount the fans and wired em up. The two 80mm fans both had 3 LED lights and the 12v adapter was kinda too much for em, they made a lot of noise. I ended up switching it to a 9v adapter to keep em quiet. Even at 9v the two fans with LEDs ran more than fine
:D

You prob got a short somewhere while in transit.
Triple and quadruple check every wire.

I looked it over none of the wires seem to be touching WTF.

If it worked fine at his house but when it got to your house something happened, of course unless ya'll run on two completely diff elect types (which I doubt).
So logically something had to go wrong in transit or while loading or unloading.
Hell, I could be wrong though, if you think it's not the wires take it back to his house and try running it there again.
EDIT: lights or fans? Sorry, shoulda asked first...

the lights..Its weird.Could it be that the condos electrical wont allow me to draw the power or some crazyness like that i dont know im no pro on it.

I dont think thats the case.
Only other issue I can think of is maybe the circuit you're plugging it into is overloaded already and thats the straw that broke the camels back...
Have you tried a diff circ?
hghflyrjd1
11-23-2010, 04:05 AM
Ive went to different plugs in the place.not sure what you mean by different circuit.
Slevinkal
11-23-2010, 04:09 AM
One circuit/breaker will usually have several plugs and whatnot on it, unless its a dedicated circuit, normally the case for fridges, ovens, and micro's.
Just trying a diff plug in the same room wont work, it's prob the same circuit.
Try a plug on the other side of the dwelling, see what happens.
If thats not the case then something is shorting IMO.

PROBLEM SOLVED..Sure enough 2 wires were touching where they split and bent any from each other. It must have happened when one of us shaped the wire a lil.So i have the 3 fans running on the Router power supply and they run fine.THANKS AGAIN guys for the info.2 on the top Blowing OUT HOT air and 1 on the BOTTOM side blowing COOL air IN.You can see the movement on the clones i have in there and the lil plastic bags covering them now move too. and when i close the trap door the suction pulls the trap closed and u hear the vacuum.Im testing to see how the temps do in different areas.I might just add another fan or 2 for intake.I might even attempt to draw cool air from the window with duct work IF temps become a big issue
Finished lining it but i need to hit some areas more and im gonna look into mylar or another material. But now all is good, just have to test and tweak some things.

At one time I took about 11 plants from seed to flower under some HO florescent tube they only put out about 37K lumes an I barely got 4 oz. out of the whole crop...wtf Did search for the best phenom but cottom candy was yummy. Bud's were super light and airy. Won't do it again! Would love to see how yours works out though. Going RDWC in about a month with a complete custom 20 Gal. 4 plant set-up to see how it goes for my personal use.
Rumor has it that a 13 Gal RDWC puts out well over an lb a plant??? Very scepticle but the science and theory is sound. Only time will tell. Not doing a grow log until I see end result. Keep us posted on your progress... I, for one, am very interested for obvious reasons...lol

Those are great setups . The pound a light is def doable , but dependent on light. If your rocking just 1k , you'll never get a lb a plant . You would probably need at least 4 600w to get a lb a plant in a 4 plant rdwc.
Your cfl plants look great!

Thanks for the update, just proving my research correct which is always nice:thumbsup:
Actually, I' trying an experiement with a verticlal 1k in the middle of a 5' tent with 4 LED flowering lights in the top corners of the tent facing diagnally down at each plant. Rotating each plant once a day to promote bushing downward towards 1K bulb and should produce some nice cola's all around instead of upward too. Just a theory though but will keep a log and publish it once I am done for obvious reason's.
Some people are going to get a crap load of free mm (if it works out) when I'm done in order for me to keep it legal which is kinda fun if you ask me ;)
I wish these post's had grammar and spell check...I keep on readin my post after the fact and end up nodding my head...lol
I have a feeling I'm gonna get hammered with request's after this post though...lmfao:hippy:
Looking for the perfect nuet compatible strains though, any thoughts, clones or advice would be greatly appreciated:cool:
Looking forward to seeing how this CFL set-up works-out too...
Peace Love and Granola.
