High All, I have a closet its about 2-3' deep, 5' wide, 8' tall! for reasons that I wont get into I cant cut holes in ceilings or walls or etcetera! my question is, is there a way to grow some really good product in this givin space? I've vegged with great success in this closet under t-5's! but don't think the t-5's will bud successfully and have no way of venting hid, hps lighting.
I have about $300 and am thinking I would like to use this space to flower also, but heat is going to be an issue. I've looked into the led stuff and am thinking of going with either 2 grow panel 45's from sears Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_01299273000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&block) Type=G1 or 1 120 watt tri-band led from htg supply NEW 120 watt LED GROW LIGHT HYDROPONIC 120w 600 HPS UFO products, buy NEW 120 watt LED GROW LIGHT HYDROPONIC 120w 600 HPS UFO products from alibaba.com (http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/106394685/NEW_120_watt_LED_GROW_LIGHT.html) along with 4 of my 4' t-5's.
Do you all think that either 1 of these combanations would give any real product (just personal use no high yields would be expected) any thoughts? thanks.

Hi Yeti, just a beginner here so I don't know too much, however I have last year grown out personal crops, 1-2 plants at a time in a cabinet that is 30 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 5 feet high. I had what I consider to be great results in that cabinet, I have two 5 inch personal desk fans, and the lighting I have is one big CFL, 200 watt, 6500k full spectrum bulb with a reflector from " hydrofarm ". Heat is really kept to a minimum and like I say for a small personal grow, I have found this to work great.

Personally I think LED lights for growing at this point are all gimmick.
The ones that do put off decent lumens in the PAR spectrum are all using the latest generation of LED's, and they are very expensive.
For example, the illuminator pro is $1200 and consumes 350w. They claim this is the equivalent output of a 1000w HID
Same deal with advanced nutrients "stealth" series LED light. 350w, $1600, claimed to be the equivalent of a 1000w HPS.
Neither company has released an independently tested output chart, so personally I don't believe their claims.
In your closet you should definitely be able to get away with a 400w and maybee a 600w HPS.

With no true way to exhaust heat don't you think this would get a little too hot?

I've seen my buddy go from veg - harvest with a 400w MH. All he had in his closet was a 10' fan in there circulating air.
It also helps to keep your ballast outside of the closet if possible - a lot of heat is produced here.

Exactly. The closet isn't that small and 400's dont make very much heat.

Cool! But how much heat we talking here? Im curious for my own benefit. I've thought of buying twin 150's ( i can get em cheap) but have stayed away from em cause of heat concerns. I figure twin lights would be better for me cause my grow area is a long rectangle, not square.
My grow box is roughly 24 sq/f.
Would one 400w or two 150w be too much if vented properly?

With a 400 i would imagine the temperature in the closet would stay around 10 degrees over ambient air temperature.
I dont think twin 150's would really heat it up at all, a degree or two over ambient.
Keep in mind as you go up in HID bulb wattage the lumen output increases by magnitudes.
I wouldnt be surprised if the output from 4 150's was lower than the output of one 400.
In terms of footprint, put up some white plastic or mylar, and the light will be more than adequate. You said your room was 3'x5'. Your average 400w light can cover 4x4ish (dont expect huge yields). Rotate your plants every few days in the closet so every plant gets good light.
If you can vent the closet and duct the light you could easily run a 600.

High All, and Thank You for your comments! hope everyones having a great weekend!
This is the way I went. 250 hps, 10" fan and 2 4' t-5's! the heat from the 250 should be fine in that small a space with the help of the fan! (hoping)? thought about a 400 but money and heat remained an issue (both)! and I thought the 400 would put out just enough more heat to give more humidity and heat issues, the 250 just felt right
HTG supply has a special here in town for $118 complete, and they through in a maxwing reflector for an extra $20! just under $150 0ut the door!! with tax!!! not a bad deal and I should do much better then I was with just the T-5's. thanks again.

I'm keep saying I'm going to stop in to HTG Supply but still haven't. Are the prices like their internet site but without shipping and of course add-in tax?

High TBM, yes they are very well stocked and are matching all pricing on there website! of course there is no shipping because your picking it up!:wtf::stoned: LOL!! but yes they do have to charge sales taxes! so if free shipping is being offered and no taxes are due upon ordering on-line, it's probably still wise to order through the website. but if you want it now, there they are!!!

I was running a 400 in an area about that size in my basement for quite a while. Over the summer temps got a bit high, peeking into the 90's even with an 8 inch exhaust tube and inline fan (ghetto rig household booster fan in a cardboard tube with the inside painted black to block light)
I got the glass for the hood (Sunsystems-2 all in one deal) and pulled the heat from the bulb into the exhaust, dropped the temps into the mid to upper 70's! :D
The 250 wont properly light that whole area, but it should do nicely over 1-2 smaller plants. specially with the t-5's as side lighting.

 exactly what I was thinking!;) 1 4' t'5 vertically on each side and the 250 above, 1 nice size plant or 2 littler ones? got to be better then the t-5's by themselves. I have a freind whose recentaly has tried to bloom with the t-5 bloom bu

(bloom bulbs) and it started out nicely but they (t-5's) seemed to run out of steam and couldn't finish budding properly?
