Hey guy's.. I tried some pot from a friend the other day, and when I first gave it a sniff it smelt like good dank weed.. but when I smoked it it tasted like old starting to rot veggies.. and the aftertaste lingered for a long time.. The bud is kinda wet, and has some, though not a lot of spinach color to it..

Is this stuff safe to smoke? It's pretty freakin potent.. after about half a bowl I was on my ass, usually it takes a few bowls of pretty mid-good stuff..

Should It just be left out to dry or something?:( waste not...

Your bud is definitely not properly dried. I suspect your buds were not dried enough before the grower packed them in plastic bags or other sealed containers. And I'm sure the buds weren't cured either. It is possible that nasty stuff could have grown on the buds in the humid, anaerobic condition they were in. You could try drying out what you have. Let it dry until you can snap a stem (or almost snap a stem). If it still tastes like rotten veggies, then I would toss it. It could be infected with mold or fungi.

If you want play it safe, you might just want to toss it now...but it would be a bit of a shame considering how good you described it to be. :(

Could be bud rot....be careful smoking it even after it's thoroughly dry...you don't wanna be smokin mold, right? I've had to throw what was once good stuff out before because of this! Yea, it hurts, but no telling what smoking the mold would do... Better off not smoking it at all if you think it's bud rot. I agree, it was not fully dried and cured properly, most likely that's the cause.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and burnt it  after letting it dry some, and checking super close for anything that looked at all like mold.. definitely gross taste, but pretty darned potent.. Ah well :) I'll remember that baggie.

A 40X microscope can offer allot of info.
Molds have definite strains and can be identified by any botanist online (with a pict or drawing w/description.
Like the microwave I don't know how I got along without my microscope and it cost a measly $15... great investment. After several months of looking at trichomes and plant parts, you will be familiar enough with parts and conditions for many things you will no longer need the m-scope.
I had a similar situation with hermies.. the taste was burning dog doo, the after taste was battery acid, but when cooked up in spaghetti or blueberry muffins it was great. Some molds leave toxic by-products and some don't, you just have to do the leg work to get your data to a guy who can identify it...
PS Why learn from trial and error when there are folks who have f*cked up far worse than you, many times over,(:beatdeadhorse: :error: :beatdeadhorse: )who are so damn proud of it, they are just dying to tell you about it !? Can you say Vi-care-ee-ious ?
