was cruisin threw my local hardware store and there they were never seen them this big. They are 68 watt 300 equivalent. 2700k Seem like a great bulb to add as supplemental lighting or for the closet or cabnet growers. O they are just under 15 bucks.. and like 10 inches long 3inches wide.

Wowzers!
I thought the 42 watt/150's were big! I may hafta pick up a couple of those. It would be nice to run a couple on some freebie auto-flower seeds that are hangin' around, without tying up some real estate in the tent.
Nice find. :)

4200 lumens...
but, I've come to the conclusion that fluorescent tubes are better than CFL's...IMO.

I agree 100%. I've seen many different setups and many different finished products and the "tubes" seem to grow the plants stronger and a little bit faster. That is a sweet CFL though, I too just seen it for my first time at Lowe's yesterday. It is a HUGE bulb.

Do you guys think one of these will work for 10 brand new seedlings at night. I put them outside during the day then when it gets dark/cold i bring em in and i bought one of these today.
Basically i just need them to establish some roots cuz im scared my 1000w will fry them

Of course it's bigger, it's a totaly different kind of CFL. That CFL you are reffering to is an actual 250watts, that's why it's so high in lumens. The 300watt store bought CFL is an actual 68watts.
I do prefer the CFL you are reffering to but the other types are much easier to relocate around the grow.

I kinda think smaller is better with CFLs you can get 3 23 watt CFL for about half of the price of that big one and if you position them right it gives you better coverage as the CFL light doesn't penetrate well through canopy. The goal is to get as many lumens on the palnt while using the fewest watts.

Hmm...I'll have to check that out. I recently purchased a 27w cfl at Homer for $8, versus $15 for the 68w monster (at Lowes). The 23w cfls would have to be a LOT cheaper than the 27w for your statement about cost to be true.

I have two 65w, and two 27w cfl's on two AK47af.
I'm using 184watts to get 11,148 lumens.

I picked up 2 twin-packs of 23w 5000k cfls at Homer today for $5.49/ea. I also grabbed the "Y" fittings to clump them together. This setup is what I plan to use for my first DWC grow once I get my recommendation (still practicing on peppers).

For the cfl growers. Try using a ceiling fan light kit. The one's with 3 sockets. Then put a spliter in each socket using a total of 6 of the 68 watt biggin's. I prefer hps/mh, but i did experiment. and had good results...
