I'm in serious need of need of legal advice. A friend and myself where out at a national wild life refuge. We took a little too far of a journey and didnt make it back before sunset.. Which is a violation. It was about 7:30-8:00 pm when my friend spotted an officer trying to sneak up on us, my buddy spotted him with his flashlight then the officer started running toward us telling us to put our hands in the air. Once he ran up to us he questioned what was in the backpack laying on the ground next to us... My friend kind of freaked out for a sec becuase there was a one hitter pipe in the bag. I was still startled by the officer and froze up for the sec... the officer asked if there was any weapons in the bag or what he would find in the bag... My friend told him he would find a pipe. The bag was searched and found as evidence was a pipe and a baggy... which the bag did not contain marijuana at anytime in its life. However, the pipe was totally empty, no ash.. just resin most likely. We made it back to the car and the searched the vehicle.. a steak knife was found... (totaly random, not a weapon but whatever).. at the end of the night they let us go home with 2 tickets each. and a receipt each... I got the receipt for the knife and friend got the receipt for the pipe. One ticket was for "exceeding visitation hours" and the other (Possesion of a controlld substance on a NWR (marijuana) The box with the offense charged looks as follows
Exceeding Visitaion hrs
Offense Charged CFR is checked and USC checked
16 USC 668dd
50 CFR 28.31
Possesion of a controlled substance
16 USC 668dd

you got 2 TICKETS for a pipe and are asking for what? Its a ticket? Zippity-do-dah. Pay it and forget it. Unless you think you wanna argue with the Feds......OVER A TICKET.....which will cost you atleast a couple hundred to hire an attorney.

I know I say it everytime and people scoff.....but if they offer you some tiny bid in the county or 1 year of probation......TAKE THE COUNTY TIME. Its way easier and saves you tons of $ and your time. Jail isnt like HBO as long as you don't run up debts or go out of bounds with the other inmates. Probation is a trap.
