Just a reminder that CB10-0607, the bill that eliminates caregivers in Denver, will finally be brought up for public hearing tonight. You should arrive early to make sure you signed up to speak. Additionally, you may waive your time and give it to someone else. I'd also like to urge anyone in surrounding cities/counties to speak as well, as other city governments often look to Denver when creating their own rules.
Also, we aren't affiliated with COMMR, but will be presenting a petition on their behalf as they won't be able to attend. I'll be there a little before the meeting to collect last minute signatures. It calls for the city to reject the bill in its entirety.
Westword's last minute coverage is here: Medical marijuana limits in Denver will likely top out at 12 plants, omit mention of caretakers - Denver News - The Latest Word (http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2010/10/medical_marijuana_limits_in_denver_will_likely_top _out_at_12_plants_omit_mention_of_caretakers.php)

And... one caregiver showed up. I'm exhausted and this has been a frustrating day.
Like Councilman Lopez said during the comment portion, patients need to stand up and be counted. I can't blame them when two different neighborhood associations, who represent thousands of people, show up and say they support the council.
One caregiver had the nerve to speak.

I really wanted to go even though I'm not in Denver, but unfortunately I work nights. I was hoping others would show & speak-out.

It did pass, didn't it?
does this now mean that all caregivers in Denver are now illegal?

Jake, thanks so much for your work on behalf of patients and for bringing the COMMR petition to the meeting. We are lucky to have you as an advocate.
One of COMMR's current focus areas is developing a strong and effective speakers bureau to turn out at these events. If you are a patient or caregiver interested in joining that group, please contact me directly:

The only silver lining on this terrible law is that it expires in 2 years, and in two years, we'll be there.

Any time. The council said that they're more than willing to revisit this issue in the short term, as well.
I believe that a coalition of patients adversely affected by this bill could really change their minds. Nevitt, in particular, sees the need for caregivers. As council president, he may be able to swing some support his way.

Last fall when they were looking at redefining caregivers and there were so many people in attendance they had to open a second viewing room. They also took input on the city ordinance. That could have turned out a lot worse.
