So this is my first thread and my first grow so this should be rather interesting. So my roommate and I are setting up our own shop, in one closet will be 4' x 2' x 5.5' tall. This is the one that will be used as our budding room an is in my closet.
I setup this one already I built a 2x2 frame wrapped in black poly on the outside and black and white poly (pandafilm) on the inside. I have a 10 inch intake fan on the top, but I am thinking about changing that to the exhaust fan and running a 4" fan thru the wall to the exterior o the house so that it gets fresh cool air but am not totally sure I wanna cut a hole in the wall. Right now it's siting at 82 degrees in there so I'm think it might need it. This one will have a 400 watt hps light which I am hoping will be sufficient. We are thinking we could fit 6 plants in here, atleast 6 3 gallon pales, but we are going to start with 5 for our first grow.
The secong room will be in my roommates closet. We have all the materials for it just havnt set it up yet. This one will be the veg room and is 2'x3'x4.5'. This one will have the same setup but does not have an exterior wall so a second fan thru the wall is out of the question. We already got the light for this one setup tho, I consists of 3 floodlamps for exterior of a house with 2 lamp sockets, we then used 6 adapters to make the 6 light sockets into 12 light sockets. We then plugged in 12 cfls which are 26 watt 1750 lumens 2700k spectrum.
That said we ordered 12 white widow seeds that are femenized from cannabisseeds. Com. We got a miracle grow potting mix that we mixed in with 2:3 perlite:potting mix. We also got a temperature guage, humidity guage, and a soil tester that tests ph level and fertilizer levels.
As this is our first grow we are pretty excited, we think that we are pretty prepared but if there is anything that webare forgetting to do or if there is something different that we should be doing please post a reply. I will continue to post atleast 1 or 2 posts a week thru out entire post.

Trying to upload all the pics that I have taken but I am currently on my iPhone and it's not letting me do it on here but as soon as I'm by a computer I'll post what I got. They are of the lights and bud room.

you need 50 posts to post pictures, but you can get around this by uploading your pictures to image shack and then just post the URL to the picture in your post.
I dont know where your from but id suggest you visit a grow store or hydroponics store and pick up some better supplies, it will save you alot of headaches in the future. for one, watch out with that miracle grow potting soil as most of it contains time released nutrients (little round balls that contain nutrients in them and the outer coating breaks down over time releasing the nutes into the soil) this is bad because you never no when those little balls might burst so its hard to determine how much nutes your plants are actually getting!
Another thing id watch out for is those pH soil probes (they also have soil moisture probes) they are cheap and MIGHT work at first but over time the moisture in the soil corrodes the probe and they WILL NOT work properly. You can look on line and get a cheap pH pen for around 50 bucks, or you could use a pH kit for a pool (around 7 bucks & then u need a bottle of pH down and pH up) ...there is no sense in having a pH monitoring device if you dont have pH up or pH down.
Work on lowering your temps. If all else fails try freezing a few 2 liter soda bottles that are filled with water and place them infront of a fan in the grow cabinet (Ghetto air conditioning!)
whats the deal with the floodlamps? have you researched these and found them to be beneficial to vegging? are they the right wave length (degrees kelvin) you want 6500 kelvin for vegetative growth, it should be printed on the bulb some where and should be a cool blue color to them. Those floodlamps might produce more heat then usable light for your plants....personally id stick with the CFL's. and keep those CFL's as close to the plants as u can without burning them
In the veg closet id also suggest (because of the lack of light) you head to walmart and get some cheap (2$) emergency blankets from the camping section. this is a CHEAP but USEFUL form of mylar.
And with your budding cabinet only being 5.5 ft tall, and using a 400watt hps you are going to want to do a little research in LST (Low Stress Training) ...basically tieing your plants down so they dont grow as tall. you need about a foot in-between your light and the canopy of the plant (for the hps) and a 5 gallon bucket is over a foot tall so that rly only leaves less than 3 feet of plant room in your cabinet...which may seem like alot but its not!
...It looks like your off to a good start, take your time and keep on reading and gaining knowledge before you start, nothing worst then getting all this expensive equipment only to have your plants die 3/4 the way threw or grow some shity weed (quality and quantity)

we have been reading and reading about cultivating and finally decided to just go about it and make mistakes and learn from them.
So the floodlamps are just the light fixtures that we have installed cfls into. Just used the floodlamps fixtures because they were cheap and holds 2 light bulbs each.
We just gotdone dumpingthe soil out of all the buckets and tomorrow morning we are going to go down to he hyrdoponcs store and get some better soil. Does organic make a difference?
Just bought 4 emergency blankets and we are currently in the middle of constructing veg room, we are goin to put those blankets in both rooms, seems better then the black and white poly.
Did a test run with 2 frozen 2 liters dangling in front o the fan and within 10 mins the temp was close to 75 degrees, Fu@@ing brilliant idea brother.
The ph guage does feel cheap, coste me 15 at homedepot so I'm gonna try and return it and buy a nice digital one, thanks for the heads up on that.
I'll post some pics of the 2 rooms and our homemade cfl fixture that we have wired to a ps3 box later on tonight when we finish this room, if not later tonite tommorrow for sure.
Thanks again man for the killer advice, anything that gonna keep my girls alive and thriving I will abide by

Personally i dont think organic makes a difference in soil...what id watch out for are any soil blends that say there soil contains 'time release nutrients' or anything to that effect. Anything from 'Sunshine mix #4' to 'Fox far ocean forest' to 'Happy frog potting soil' to Roots organics ... there are TONS of good potting soils out there.
One of the ezest ways iv found to hang mylar is to mount it onto cardboard using duct tape. you want it to be as wrinkle free as possible! i usually make 4 card board walls and mylar each wall and then lean them up against each other ...seems to work out better then just hanging the mylar on the sheet rock walls using tacks or w/e

So far it looks like your on the right track.
Personally I like Panda over Mylar, It's only 2% less reflective 96% instead of 98%. but it diffuses better and reflects less heat.
The 400 will be plenty of light, just keep an eye on the temps. My flowering room is 4.5x2.5x7 foot, with a 400. I wound up running a portable swamp cooler on my intake to help bring temps in line, and I've got an 8" exhaust out of the room, and a seperatly exhausted air cooled hood.
As for the soil, Terps nailed it. Ocean forest is considered to be a bit hot to start seedlings or clones in, however I've never had a problem.
Once you get your girls going,.... I've found that I can only fit 2-3 plants in flower at a time. Unless I do em as clones, but then I'm only yielding 1/4oz per plant finished! I"m too limited on plant count so I would rather flower trees and pull 2-3 oz per plant :D
The downfall of tree's under a 400 is the light will only penetrate about a foot and a half into the canopy. Look into either Sea Of Green style growing or with fewer plants, Screen Of Green.
Good luck and happy growing! :hippy:
