I have a 1000 cropmaster ballast , weight 44 pounds- I have a 2x 6 ceiling joist which I have put a 4X6 bridge block between joist- I have a solid mounting surface- If I put in lag bolts how do I suspend with bungie cords as has been suggested in stickies. A lot of weight and I do want to rubber mount for vibration if I can!!Do not want this thing to come crashing down from 8 foot high

your lag bolts should be fine but get a heavy duty lag bolt if your worried. also use a chain to hold it up. plus u should have no vibration on your light & the ballast does not vibrate either. place your ballast on a shelf near by, the cord is long enough. the only vibration u should have is in your exhaust fan which i would use bungie to hold up.

I hung my ballasts with no issues. No vibrations or heat issues. I would make sure you hang well though. I had a small fan cooling a ballast that wasn't mounted so well. It came crashing down about a week ago. Topped 3 kolas in one go!

exactly how did you hang? I have a keyway connector in the handles- did you use a chain or hard bungees- also the ballast is obviously much heavier on one end then the other-also wht does your screen-name represent?

I have two ballasts. One for a 600 watt that is very heavy, maybe 5 pounds or something. I mounted that ballast vertical since the ballast had a sticker that said this way up ^ so that's what I went with. It has a hole on one end so I drilled a screw right through and held with a single screw. The second ballast is a T5 ballast which is much lighter and longer. Get's plenty fucking hot too! It has some odd key holes on the sides so I mounted that one horizontal. The grow space is lined with particle tool hanging board so there are like millions of holes waiting to be used. I already have an assortment of hooks and what not designed to be inserted into this type of particle board so I just used two hooks and hung it like a drape or something. Seems to work just fine. Both ballasts are mounted as high as possible because of heat and the way it wants to rise naturally.
The name is a play on words from a company where I learned to trade securities back in the day. I still trade securities just not for a living anymore. I'm a playboy now :)
