Wall hangining plant pouches.

I just seen a grow room in the show weeds and was wondering if this is actually a good method. Basically it was like a rigged up fridge, but rather than pots on the floor he lined the walls with plant pouches and grew dozens of tiny plants. Would a method like this work, and what would be the best strain that wouldn't cost a ton to get a 12 or so seeds? Here is a pic of something similar to these wall hanging pouches;
