with that size space you might want to consider a ScROG. you wouldn't have to worry about height near as much either.

Hmm i was considering but this is gonna be my first ever grow i think 4 feet should be plenty tall flowering plants at 12" when finished should be around 2-2.5 feet plus 10" for pots and 5 inches for light = 45" also going to be doing uncle ben topping for 4 main colas should yeild atleast an oz a plant but just wanted to see peoples thoughts

what lighting are you gonna use? four, 2-3' plants are going to be crammed in a 4 sq ft space.....especially topped plants.

first grow and you already got your harvest figured out huh? pretty impressive.

300 watt dual spectrum cfl 18,500 lumens should be enough for my space i read a lumens guide saying optimal is 5000 lumens per square foot and thats around 4000+ lumens per sq. foot im thinking realisticaly now and going with 2 topped plants in there what do you think?

if not i will possibly do a scrog i want the most amount of bud i can get :D

two topped plants are more realistic. the CFL isn't gonna grow huge, bushy plants. and you are gonna have horrible light penetration. you need as much light as you can fit in there. 5000 lumens per square foot is the MINIMUM you want for flowering.

i still say ScROG is the way to go, all things considered.

You might check out Finn's scrog in the grow log section, he finished a nice one over winter. You could learn a lot from the log and it will show you just what you can do with it. Very nice yield he got:thumbsup:. Just look deep as i said it was near winter so im thinking it might be a page or two back.

Good luck man:rasta:

cfl is cheap and efficiant running on 80% less electricity than lets say 3 100w incandescents or a 250w hps and actually the minimun for flowering is 2000 lumens per sq.f read the sticky on indoor lighting :D

the sticky for lighting is not the know all/end all to lighting. if you want to sit here and argue with someone who what grown with CFLs then go for it. i'm not saying it can't be done. the results will be far from spectacular though. i had 17x, 23W CFLs stuffed in 4 sq ft.

you can't compare CFL, incandescent and HPS. incandescent lighting is highly inefficient. only about 10% of the electricity consumed is turned into light and everything else is turned into heat. a 23-26W CFL is equivelant to a 100W incandescent bulb. so an incandescent produces ~17.5 lumens per watt, CFLs ~70 and HPS ~130-150. so an HPS is by far more efficient than a CFL. a 250W HPS puts out somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 lumens.

so keep expecting an ounce per plant. i'm trying to drop knowledge on you and you are trying to tell me i'm wrong. you, like me, like every other noob to grow a plant thinks the rules of physics or biology apply to them......and then you find out science rules and we must follow it's laws. so, if you want to grow killa weed then keep your mouth closed and pay attention, if not, please keep telling me i'm wrong. i'm so blowed from smoking weed that you've only seen in magazines that i'm laughing my ass off the whole time!
