LAKEBAY, Wash. -- The hunt for armed attackers continues after a group of camouflaged men targeted a "significant marijuana-grow operation" in Lakebay on Key Peninsula.

Pierce County sheriff's deputies found one of the attackers dead when they responded to the 19100 block of Second Street after 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told KIRO 7 that six or seven attackers arrived with the intention of robbing the grow operation, but the property owner fought back.

Deputies say the attackers were armed with shotguns, handguns and knives.

At least 40 to 50 rounds were fired. Deputies expect to find more shell casings when daylight arrives.

By the end of the gunfight, one attacker was dead and at least two others wounded.

Deputies said one of the wounded was the homeowner who fought back.

They said the man found dead at the scene was dressed in camouflage and armed with a shotgun.

They found another injured man walking down Tiedman Road.

Deputies continued searching through the night for three to four other attackers.

A woman believed to be the getaway driver is in custody.

Neighbors were urged to keep their doors locked and all 911 if they saw anything suspicious.

at least people in all camo are easy to spot after the incident.

this is exactly why medical marijuana patients shouldn't have their gun rights taken away. If the residents at that house hadn't fought back theyd all be dead most likely with no suspects in jail.

I'm sure there's more to the story than we're being told yet but its a good lesson for people to be prepared. Either have a safe room to get to or have a firearm readily available.

The violence of prohibition. :(

When was the last time there was a shootout over alcohol? Prohibition, that's when.

People dying over a fucking plant. Doesn't make sense does it? :( Needless to say, I'd defend my property with just as much vigor if not more. Ex-Jarhead. :D

Stuff like this makes me sad, but some info i got this morning from someone that works there, two of the wounded men are currently at Tacoma General Hospital, This is just one more reason to leagalize it, and take money out of the hands of people that would do stuff like this

if they do legalize it there will still be rips because of the lazy sobs dont want to take the time and effort to grow it. or if you grow big enough where it is worth there time. even if legal still play it like it is not. be safe.

I was not a jarhead, but someone tries that shit on me and they will have their hands full, I used to do a lot of hunting. I shoot well, specially up close. My boys are black belts ....and the thought of getting killed over it is no big deal...release from this gawd awful pain I live in.

Sounds like the fight may have been over other drugs that were being sold there.
Another black mark for MMJ patients.

Having done just about every drug in the day, cannabis is just fine for me now. And it is the other drugs that bring the nasty stuff. Nonetheless, its prohibition that is the root cause. :twocents:
