In Hospital, cannot smoke. :(

I am stuck in the cancer ward at the University of Washington until this Sunday.

Talking to several nurses seems to indicate I'm not going to be able to smoke (mostly due to my not being allowed out of the ward during the active chemotherapy)... not even a discreet ping in the bathroom now and again followed by febreeze or some sort of thing to kill the smoke when i breathe it out ... sigh.

And, the magic brownies, magic candy, and magic goldfish I brought... well they are not really doing it for me. Hardly better than what people describe about Marinol.

Any idea what to do?

Update: The University of Washington Medical Center has explained the following:
(1) first of all, non-smoking hospital. I cannot wander to the designated smoking area due to my dropping white cell counts . :(
(2) they do not "honor" outside prescriptions, they take your outside med list and dispense from their stocks. in fact i cannot take my prilosec and am on the inferior protonix.
(3) Since they have standing policies refusing smokable MMJ, they won't write or permit me to take my state-legal prescription here.
(4) I have heard bad things about their "alternative", Marinol.

This is a fascist prison I'm in until late in the week. I wish I could get someone here with a discreet Sneek A Vape or something that wouldn't set off the fire alarms .... :( :(

What would you do in my sad socks??????

The UW is pretty backward about there MMJ policies yet. If you need a transplant they will turn you down if you pop positive for MJ. There are some good people there like Dr. Gregory Carter that are trying to change the system but it will take time. I'd just try and tough it out till the chemo is done.

The protonix is a great thing the Dr. did for you..it turns out that protonix turns up a positive ua or blood test for thc...go out to the smoking area(or private walk about) blaze on and say nothing.

If they do a GC/MS confirmation test, which they will do, they will find that it is MJ. Keep talking to your doctor about nausea issues and reduced appetite and see if you can't get him talked into letting you smoke. Contact Dr Gregory Carter there at the UW, he may be able to help. He's a nice guy and this is his area of research at the UW.

Very seldom do they do those confirmation tests..especially when a M.D. writes a script for protonix...I have been given protonix for over 10 yrs and each time they ask what scripts and when protonix hits the paper, they ignore the positive THC findings...and the numbers are equal to someone who intakes about an 1/8th a day...just speaking from long term experience. My most testing was done while in jail..go figure.

I've done a couple of verifications through Dr. Carter's office recently - so far all has gone well. :) Nice to have a UW doctor in the MMJ loop!

And guaranteed he'll be in a court room to help if he needs to. I would like to see him take a couple courses in court proceedings though and learn a little more about proper techniques for testifying. It helps to be as polished as possible when you're being called as a professional witness.
