radio shack has a nice 60x-100x with a light.

This. They're twelve bucks. You can check inventory online. Just make sure you refer to illuminated microscope when you ask, because most of those employees are idiots. My local shop had 12 in stock and it still took the person 15 minutes to find them.

It never stopped being awkward for me to use that little scope. It would make my eyes hurt and was more of a bother than it was worth. But you can't beat $12 for a new grower.

If you're just trying to get a better idea of where your trichomes are at, some prefer a jewelers loupe or a 'reader' http://www.n1stores.com/catalog/images/Electronic_Gadgets/60mm_Magnifier_Glass_Reading_Hand_Help.jpg might be just fine for you.

As I went along, I spent a little more ($60-$75) on a digital microscope that hooks up to my computer's usb so I could see more and take pictures. That's what I prefer now, because focusing and general viewing is easier to see on the computer screen than any other method. The digital scope goes down to 20x too so it's really versatile.
