Since one of my plants came up stolen am done with outdoor growing which is sad because there's nothing better than some nice natural sun grown marijuana! Since am new to indoors as was wondering about on average how many plants can you put under a 1000 watt hps lamp? and how many under a 600 watt? Just wondering which one I should get? Am guessing the 1000 watt would allow for more plants because it puts out more lumens per sq ft but am also guessing that it would cost more to run.

I'm new to indoor as well. Actually, new to growing my own medicine period. I started with CFL and Fluoros because of budget and heat concerns(my space is a 2X4' closet. 400w?), but have been looking into HPS. I definitely want one, but I'm pretty sure I'll run CFL's as well. I have had what I consider pretty good success with CFL, but I'm always looking to improve. I know that some ads for lights tell you their "light footprint", which I guess would be a good place to start. I don't know what height they measure from, but you can obviously increase your footprint by raising your lights, but then you have to think about light dissapation. I don't know the complete answer to your question, but if you can find out what the footprint is and where it's measured from, etc., I have read MULTIPLE times that you can easily fit 1 plant per sq ft of space. My Idea when I get my HPS(Haven't decided where to order from yet, but I'm leaning toward HTG Garden Supply. Great prices, trying to check quality right now.) is to run my HPS overhead and hang my CFL's between my ladies from the top half down. All my CFL's hang straight down and are height adjustable. Hope I can get pics uploaded and they are good enough to see. I've been unable to upload photos for about a week now. Don't know why. AAAAnndd.... they didn't upload, sorry. You can check my profile or grow log(First Grow") though. They aren't the most current pics, and the video isn't the current set-up. Good Luck and PEACE!

jagerbombs101 & budlover13, Hey guys,

Consider using an air cooled hood to deal with the heat issues associated with HID use. If that alone is not enough, check out the products from Hydro Innovations. They have insulation pkgs for reflectors and water cooling options.

Hope this helps. :)

I purchased all my HID equipment from HTG and I am completely satisfied. I didnt go for their cheapest stuff though. Got a lumatek digi ballast and 6" air cooled hood in my package... paying the extra for the digi balast and aircooled hood was a must for my situation.
