Okay so i was planning on getting 2 150w cfl grow lights 1 2700k and 1 6700k at about 20000 lumens output for the both and i was wondering should i get a 250w hps instead the kit on ebay is only £25 more and a 250w hps has only about 5000 extra lumens im only growing for person use and want to get about an oz a plant growing 3-5 plants so should i save my money and get the cfl's or go for the hps

I'm fairly new here, however, have done extensive research (i'm still a n00b) lighting is one of the most important factors in your grow. You need to determine the best lighting for your needs and $$$. My suggestion is get the most you can afford, keep in mind heat/ventalition with the HID systems. I would chose hid over cfl anyday. cfl and floros are awesome for seedlings/germination/cloning etc. If you intend on having a few plants, you probably could get away with cfl, but ur plants will no doubt benifit from HID, even if you have one or two. So if you can afford it, go with HID if you have the ventalition/ heat worked out. If you want a little, virtually maintenance free light, go with cfl.... from what I've read though, your plants will not be as big or dense as they would with hid. Of corse I could be totally wrong... :wtf: told you, I'm a n00b, I'm not stupid though, and can read, however do not have the "lab time" - which is WAY more important then ANYTHING you can read. Good luck!

Well good points there but im leaning towards cfl cheaper and more eco and plus saving money on my electric bill

I'm a first-time grower, so I'm definitely no expert. I am using 7 55w CFL's and 4 32w t8 fluoros and I can't speak for yield, because I don't know what is normal and I know it varies by strain. I am 6 1/2 weeks into flower and my buds are just as dense as the ones I get at the dispensary. If I HAD to guess yield, I would say about 1/2+ oz from each of my trainwrecks and between 1/4 and a 1/2 off my white widow and OG bubblegum kush. The buds are frosty too and smell wonderful!

I have been considering a 400w HPS, but I'm afraid I'll have heat issues and don't have the money to invest in a cooling system.
