From Jeff Bard:

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Please forgive this political email, which I generally avoid like the plague. I am only sending this one email (and no more) because the attorney general race is likely to impact the MMJ community.

Boulder County District Attorney, Stan Garnett, is running against John Suthers for the position of Colorado attorney general (the state's "top cop"). Most of you know that current attorney general, John Suthers, actively sought to dismantle Amendment 20 and proposed a bill to the Colorado Legislature prohibiting MMJ businesses. Mr. Suthers also is the person responsible for the legal position that MMJ is taxable at the retail level. I had the pleasure of debating Mr. Suthers about MMJ and his position is that MMJ is not real medicine and that marijuana is a "gateway drug."

On the other side, Mr. Garnett was one of the few DAs who opposed Mr. Suther's plan to dismantle the MMJ industry. Mr. Garnett is outspoken about his support for MMJ, the patients and the businesses which support them.

Accordingly, attorneys Warren Edson, Robert Corry, Jon Banashek, Lenny Frieling and myself agreed to join together in supporting Stan Garnett. We are hosting a fundraiser next thursday, 9/23, at Casselman's in Denver. A flyer is attached. There will be food, drinks and entertainment (no the attorneys are not debating each other!). I hope you can make it. If not, please support Stan in the November election.

Thanks,

Jeff

As you can gather from Jeff's letter, Stan is definitely on our team. He would be a voice at a state level for reasonable medical marijuana policy. If you can contribute in any way, please do. The time for standing on the sidelines is long past us.

ColoradoPols has the race even, which means it's still winnable.

Yes it is. We need the young people to hit the booths in Nov. like they did two yrs. ago. Stan Garrett is just what we need compared to what we've had to deal with in the AG's office for too long.

I think the fact that its an even race is a good sign, Suthers is more of a household name at this point and I'm sure he has the backing of law enforcement. Garrett definitely has my vote.

yup. There's a reason Boulder County has been hands off - Stan is our DA!

He is the best candidate on the whole damn ballot for MMJ this year!

I need to get ahold of his campaign and see if I can help. I can probably put off getting a job and work full time for him until the elections. If it's that close, a few votes may cause a VERY large swing in the way that MMJ & Hemp are treated here in Colorado.

Thanks for the info, I was unaware. Thank God for the interwebz.

I'd call this a recommendation from Laura:

"I have to give Stan Garnett kudos," Kriho says. "He spoke very eloquently for patients, and very eloquently against the federal prosecution of Chris Bartkowicz -- and against HB 1284," a recently passed MMJ measure "that he felt was over-regulation of the industry.

"We're fighting over seventy years of reefer-madness drug-war propaganda," she adds, "and there's still a lot of disbelief in the medical community that this is a legitimate treatment for illnesses. So this was really refreshing."

I'd call this a recommendation from Laura:

Laura's great but just wish she didn't associate so much with Tim T. - he has screwed over so many people such as selling a CD with patient recs & apps to unknowing cg's, telling them that all they have to do is print them out and the cg's grow will be legal. Telling cg's that he needs to buy some meds for his patients, gets cut a helluva deal cause he said he wouldn't mark-up the price to his patients - but turns around and charges the patients typical retail price. I could go on... I stay as far away from that guy as possible.

It seems like a lot of those in this business have a little blood on their hands.
