From Jeff Bard:
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Please forgive this political email, which I generally avoid like the plague. I am only sending this one email (and no more) because the attorney general race is likely to impact the MMJ community.
Boulder County District Attorney, Stan Garnett, is running against John Suthers for the position of Colorado attorney general (the state's "top cop"). Most of you know that current attorney general, John Suthers, actively sought to dismantle Amendment 20 and proposed a bill to the Colorado Legislature prohibiting MMJ businesses. Mr. Suthers also is the person responsible for the legal position that MMJ is taxable at the retail level. I had the pleasure of debating Mr. Suthers about MMJ and his position is that MMJ is not real medicine and that marijuana is a "gateway drug."
On the other side, Mr. Garnett was one of the few DAs who opposed Mr. Suther's plan to dismantle the MMJ industry. Mr. Garnett is outspoken about his support for MMJ, the patients and the businesses which support them.
Accordingly, attorneys Warren Edson, Robert Corry, Jon Banashek, Lenny Frieling and myself agreed to join together in supporting Stan Garnett. We are hosting a fundraiser next thursday, 9/23, at Casselman's in Denver. A flyer is attached. There will be food, drinks and entertainment (no the attorneys are not debating each other!). I hope you can make it. If not, please support Stan in the November election.
Thanks,
Jeff
As you can gather from Jeff's letter, Stan is definitely on our team. He would be a voice at a state level for reasonable medical marijuana policy. If you can contribute in any way, please do. The time for standing on the sidelines is long past us.
