god dam im so sick of my family trying to make me all religious and shit. they want me to go with them to meetings and other religious stuff but i dont believe in god and i think its a waste of fucking time. i havent told them that i dont believe in god b/c they are very religious and strong about "fear god" and "god is watching you" and theyre always talking about ...god did this for us, be thankful, and god did that for us... BULLSHIT!

god didnt help make us any money... fuckin customers did. god didnt get u the job promotion... ur boss did. god dam another great example is like the other day... my mom was driving wrecklessly and i was like "put ur seatbelt on and stop driving so dam fast" and shes just like..."well god will protect us" I WAS GOING CRazy now with rage at how she thought some god will save us. its fuckin insanity.

the reason we didnt crash is b/c she slowed down and we took the exit. god didnt put some shield around us and protect us from cars going 80mph.

i want to tell them wat i think but i have no idea how they will take but i no it will not go well at all. and i def. dont want to waste my weekend being some retarted piece of fuck praying to some unknown creature up in the air. ever since i started tokin that sweet sweet mary-j i have been thinking deep into things and i look around and see that if theyre is a god... then dam he is a real asshole b/c alot of things are shit. ppl around me are suffering all the time and im lucky but i just think that if theyre is a god and those ppl are praying to him.. y the fuck are they dying and in debt. and havin horrible lives. i enjoy mooning nuns with my friends whenever i see them. they are dumass's and i want to fuck the shit out of all of them.

Well first off, you shouldn't be using all the "fucks" associated with god. I myself am agnostic and find religion interesting, but don't follow a set one with a god. I do have one tip, educate yourself on it before you get into an argument or debate about the subject, otherwise you will look like an idiot. Let your parents know how you feel and tell them that christianity (I'm assuming) is not your bag and you don't wish to live by the religion.

First of all, you're never going to be able to understand and co-exist with religious people if you're so offensive and insulting toward them. Show some respect and you'll get it back.

Secondly, if you talk to your parents about religion the way you did in this thread, then it'll only confirm their assumption that you need religion in your life - they'll think you're going 'astray' or that having God in your life will help you.

Be calm, be respectful, try actually learning something about their religion, and try and learn why they want to have religion in their life. Then you can explain to them (calmly is always the best way) why you don't feel that you need religion in yours. Hopefully both sides of the discussion will come away feeling like they have learnt something about the other, and it may strengthen your relationship. By talking to them about what they believe in like you talked about it in this thread, both parties will only come away feel angry, misunderstood and offended.

I'm Christian but I honestly think you should listen to my advice. First of all, TELL YOUR PARENTS YOUR FEELINGS. 99.9% of relationships are fucked up because the communication sucks. If you don't believe in God so be it, but let your parents know. Personally, I am a firm believer in a higher being but I try to respect other people's opinions even if I don't agree that they are doing the right thing. I never try to force my religon upon other people, and I'm sure your parents won't either. You shouldn't make a big deal out of it if they are asking you to go to a mass/service/meeting, as there is nothing wrong with that. You are after all being asked, not being forced, and you can make your own concious decision as to whether or not you wanna go.
Second, the part about the car makes it seem like your mother is not a normal person to me. That has more with her being mentally crazy than religious. In my opinion, miracles of God can happen, but stuff like not wearing a seatbelt is lunacy.
As for the part about God being an asshole, it sure can seem that way sometimes. But the way I think about it, the bible never said anything about how life was going to be an easy thing, in fact, im pretty sure it said quite the opposite. So as humans, why do we expect things to be perfect when they weren't intended to be? That's an entirely differently question but I believe that it's a cornerstone of Christianity, having faith at all times, no matter what the circumstances.
Point in case, you are growing up and your mind is creating new opinions constantly. You are entitled to whatever you want to believe but remember to respect what others think, including your family. I also think your ideas about Christianity are a bit skewed. It's all about faith my friend, you either have it or you don't. You can either live the way you think God intended, with love and helping others, or you can choose not to. My suggestion would be to first tell your parents, then perhaps go to those meetings, and even read the bible. I think you will learn a lot. Good luck with whatever you choose. :)

ilovelife, I'm going through the same thing. My parents are always trying to get me to believe in God. I'm an atheist and I've explained to them several times why I am, but they think atheism is so crazy and evil so its useless to argue with them. Take Ghostoker's advice. Most likely if they really are religious it will not work because they dont want you to go to hell. (I'm assuming they believe in hell). I mean, if I was a parent and thought my kid was going to hell Id never just say "You're an atheist? Thats fine."

So just avoid the subject of religion as often as possible. If they talk about God, just dont say anything. They'll probably want to believe you started believing again, even though deep inside they know you dont. But they'll be thankful you're not so anti-God that you will argue with them everytime they bring up the subject of religion.

I know its hard to be atheist and living with people who believe in God. But look around you. Most people believe in God and they always will, even people you love. I just remember that saying "Religion is the opiate of the people", and it helps relieve a lot of my anger towards people who believe in God.

Yeah, I was about 14 when I figured out religions were just a way of spreading bullshit and oppressing people and controlling their behavior. I don't really try to bring it up too much because all the people who actually believe that crap get really angry when you do. But I am well defended and armed to the teeth with logical arguments if someone does try to convert me to some religious belief. It happens...some people just can't imagine a world without a giant omnipotent invisible friend and believe everybody else has to believe in their invisible friend too. I wouldn't say religion is bullshit. I never go to church of any kind, closest thing was a couple of Buddhist Goma ceremonies in New York City two years ago. But I go to a Catholic school, so I figured since I have to take a Theology class every year I might as well learn a little and quit being such a smartass about it. As it happens, I haven't found any new affinity with the bible or organized religion in general, but despite the weird fucks that misinterperet and distort the stuff, the basic ideals are pretty solid. You can't really argue with "treat people the way you'd like to be treated" and "murder is not allowed."

Besides, lots of people get some kind of solace and even positive motivation out of their religion. It sucks that your parents are trying to force this stuff on you, but you can't be so dismissive of such a complicated topic.

I find religion interesting and yes there is a scam/power-hungry aspect of it but there is also something beautiful about it. Just because humans are not advanced enough in their knowledge of science to understand a particular phenomenon doesnt mean we should just throw our hands up in the air and say its a miracle of God. If we did that all the time, no scientific progress would be made at all. People used to think the fact that mushrooms seemingly sprouted out of nowhere attributed it to witches, just because they didnt know about spores. I have a theory why Christians continually oppose evolution being taught, not because they actually believe its wrong, but because its an embarassment to them that so many parts of the bible are wrong and scientificaly impossible, i.e, Adam and Eve.

Considering your parents seem fairly serious about thier church (ugh), there is nothing you can do but tolerate it untill you move out, which i reccomend doing at 18, and telll them excactly why (i dont like religeon forced upon me). If i'm wrong and your parents are understanding, just have a serious sit-down and explain that you don't enjoy or belive in church, and it doesnt matter if you go now because you never will on your own. Ok, would you care to name a few plants (thats what marijuana is, a plant) that aren't a creation of god? I assume (correct me if i'm wrong), that you are referring to things like the crusades, the Spanish inquisition, the conquest of America, etc, etc. Although these atrocities were done in the name of God, it is soldiers, mercenaries, and others who did this for thier own reasons. Just because they say it is in god's name doesn't mean that without religeon, there wouldn't be any wars, large-scale killings/genocide, etc. It's human nature, and it doesn't slow down or stop for religeon or anything else. i suggest you actually do some research and you might find that more people died from starvation and disease than a sword. Economic theory would suggest that a fall in the dollar and a rise in the euro should lead to an improvement in US exports and a decline in US imports, as the former becomes cheaper and the latter more expensive. However, this depends to some extent on how currency costs are passed down the supply chain. The role of the dollar as the world's de facto reserve currency helps support both the dollar and the US budget deficit - but it depends on the continued willingness of foreigners to finance both. Central banks and others finance the budget by acquiring newly-issued, dollar-denominated US government bonds, which they need to acquire dollars for. If at some point foreigners become unwilling to accept new bonds at the prevailing interest rate (perhaps because the falling dollar is reducing the bonds' value too much), the dollar will fall even more - or the US will have to raise interest rates, which would reduce economic growth.

There is speculation that the strength of the euro relative to the dollar might encourage the use of the euro as an alternative reserve currency; Saddam Hussein's Iraq switched its currency reserves from dollars to euros in 2000. Moves by central banks with major reserve currency holdings such as those of India or China to switch some of their reserves from dollars to euros, or even of OPEC countries to switch the currency they trade in from dollars to euros, will further reinforce the dollar's decline. In 2004, the Bank for International Settlements reported the proportion of bank deposits held in euros rising to 20%, from 12% in 2001, and it is continuously rising. The falling dollar also raises returns for US investors from investing in foreign stocks, encouraging a switch which further depresses the dollar. The rise in the euro should dampen Eurozone exports, but there is little sign of this happening yet. The shit you said made me laugh I respect your honesty, But their is a God. I'm not saying he's some guy with a long beard or anything else. We are nothing but stupid creatures. Now why does life seem to be a living hell. With suffering, debt etc. I'll make this short. We are suffering under Debt because in america we have the Federal Reserve Bank, That is a Private bank not really federal. The name is ment to confuse you. The government borrows money from the Bank that's printed out of thin air plus the interest. Also the reason people suffer from debt is because the private bank known as the federal reserve controls the stock market. They make the market go up and down or crash.
Humans also suffer from accidents and deaths from there own greed and stupidty. Like chemicals in foods or air giving them Cancers. OR making dangerous 2 ton Vehicles,etc.
Now why would God let these things happen? Because he gave you free will. If he didn't you would be like a robot and wouldn't really be alive or feel alive.
If you want answers pray to God or Creator he will show you things. That doesn't mean you have to join any of these cults like your parents. That just means give thanks for having arms and legs and use them in ways that help the world, Thank him for having food to eat. Pray for others also.

Now about Cults ! All religious groups are cults some cult think they are not cults,but the only difference between a cult and a religion is the amount of follwers you have. If you only have 50 or 100 , or you go against the grain of the cults that control the masses for govt. then they like to call you a cult.

Another mistake people make is to think only religions contain cults. Not true ! Some people that are in Political Parties are cult members. It goes back to what I was saying earlier. People look at their fellow american and think that he is the enemy because he or she is a liberal or Conservative. They never can see the big picture that it's the federal reserve setting interest rate and through that controls employment , how much living will cost,etc. Just to keep you thinking of how you're going to pay the bills,because if these sheep ever have time to really think they might figure this out that there life doesn't have to be a living hell or be a slave which most of these cult members think they are free.
Also another aspect of a cult is television. If your reality is only what you have seen or been told by controled telvision you are under a form of mind control, because you can not make rational decesions without having critical infomation to analyze. Goes back to what I was saying about 911. Did You know it's a fact that WTC building #7 was imploded on 9-11-01 ? Most people don't because they won't "here's that word again" BELIEVE it unless G.E. who owns NBC tells them. Most of them don't know who the vice President is, but they can tell you who got voted off survivor. Thsi is what we are up against.
