Isn't this refreshing, a thread about British politics :p !

Having turned 18 last year, I now have the right and privilege to vote in the upcoming election... And I can safely say I probably won't.

This election is nothing but a contest to see who can promise the most appeasements. Labor believe they will cut crime by 30 (or so) percent within the next 4 years, should they be reelected. Liberal Democrats promise to abolish student uni fees. Conservative are too hung up on putting down Labor to actually promise anything. Do any of these twats even know how they are hoping to accomplish these promises? How can crime be reduced in any other way then should have been attempted in the last 5 years (aside from hunting down ALL chavs :p )? Where will the money come from for student fees? Where are the details?

All I hear on the news is 'Today, this party promised this', 'this party promised that'. Why should anyone believe any of it? All these parties want is to get into power. If Labor could so easily make a significant difference (like they promised to last election) they would have, so either politics is no walk in the park (which renders their appeasements totally empty) or it's all a plate of shit to begin with.

Anyone feel free to prove me wrong, i'm not as confident on the subject as I might appear. :p

Your thoughts, fellow Brittanians (or Americano's, if it's relevant)?

Yes I have to say its a tough choice. Frankly if we're left with a Labour party I belive the ID Act will come in, the other act that makes a FBI style police force, and many other adjustments that would make us more American - Frankly this is the last thing this country needs and more importantly, WANTS. Plus, I don't think Labour is going to fulfill any of its promises and will probably carry on appeasing the CIA and Bush.
Interestingly they have also (I would only put this as relevent on a cannabis forum) promised to put cannabis back on Class B, or at the very least review the evidence against it. However if Labour does get re-elected I don't think this would happen some how.

Conservatives - Yeah they're not really that glamorous, like a program said - its like going into the store and seeing "reduce crime" and a few other items in the store and saying "Is that all there is?" Not really a great government to have, however I see a less active government when it comes down to going to war and doing things that would go against the public.

Lib Dems - Don't really know that much about these guys, but they ain't going to win anyway. (Lets be honest only a 28% majority or something around there, compared to labour 36-42%) Saying that, I'm all for a liberal government full stop.

Overall, (if i could vote) I would probably have to go Conservative, only for the reason of choosing the lesser of two evils. Maybe if the Lib Dems had a chance I would vote for them, but that isn't going to happen. But if theres anything I want less, it's to have an americanised UK, seriously, Im all for freedom - but REAL freedom, not just a word.

Whoever said that a country that chooses security over freedom deserves not to be country is VERY RIGHT.

I agree

labour are bound to get in, i think Mr Blair is a dick myself. The anti terror laws he wants are scary, there is no way i will ever have an id card, i'll to jail or die. people hardly trust Mr Blair, are you gonna trust the government in 10 years time, 20 years time, 100..... because the id cards will still be around, www.no2id.org is a good source of info. Its the same with cctv, it is here for ever... even if people stopped talking about terrorism tomorow the id cards, the terror bills the cctv wouldn;t go away. They aint gotta take these things away once they are in place, there is nothing saying they hav to. The only reason mr blair didn;t hav his terror laws passed recently was becuase he would agree to the being reviewed on a yearly basis.....why?, what is the problem with that????. This thing really pisses me off.
All over the news its all about terror and fear, there was that guy they convicted last week for plotting to do an act of terror but if you actually look at what he was using it would of done absolutly nothing appart from create a panic, no one was gonna die. He was using the same things that an assasin might use to kill a single person, not cause mass terror.
A climate of fear is being created, it seems to me 90% of the population are so scarred they are gonna go and give up all there rights to the government who they think are gonna protect them. The romans used that tactic- order out of chaos.

As far as voting goes i think i might write my name on the paper and put an x next to that, all the partys are full of masonic bastards.

Obviously none of the parties are going to live up to all their promises, but you still have to choose the best party an vote for it (choose Labour.)

Conservatives are twats (they don't have real policies, they just disagree with Blair) and Lib Dems wont win anyway.

The head of the Monster Raving Loony Party was at a club over here recently, wearing his stupid-ass shiny coat, with stickers all over him.. Being drunk, I had to go and shake his hand. lol

As for this thread - I can't vote for any of those parties: I live in the Channel Islands, and we have our own government, but usually they just follow what the British government at the time is doing, just a few months behind.

Who DO you trust....?

Political Intelligence, the best oxymoron I've ever heard.
That and Peace Force.

The faces we see in politics are no more than front men, lying with a straight face about their (country's) actions. Always covering every poorly calculated move on their part to some extent in which the government(s) own self made image of justice can gain some form of plausible deniability (or not, even justice itself) regardless of how ridiculous and callous the attempt may be.
