View Full Version : The Future of the Medical Marijuana Program in New Mexico

The polls are showing that Susana Martinez in the lead. She has been very vocal and emphatic about ending the program in New Mexico. If she wins the governorship, do we have any recourse? Can we stop her from ending the program?
I have this sinking feeling that we are going backwards and losing ground. It is so disheartening. :(

susana martinez Ā« New Mexico Independent (http://newmexicoindependent.com/tag/susana-martinez/page/2)
MMj is getting a bad rap because of the abuse in the programs through out the United States, not just NM.. The so "called Green Rush" is over. Martinez and Vigil are full supporters of a lot of bullshit and do not believe in our cuase. Vigil may say one thing but he has held back on this program from the very start? IMO,..This is a classic scenario called "political sabotage" I looked up some info on Vigil a while back and have had my doubts about him from the start. Martinez is self explanitory and very transparent.
Vote for Denish, I am pretty sure everyone I know is going to vote for her. They should if they value their "legal" MMJ.

I personally believe this train has left the station and there is little anyone can do to stop it now or in the future. I cannot speak for others but even if the law disappeared I would continue to do grow my own medicine as I do now as I REFUSE to go back on opiates/pharacueticals for daily pain control. (not to mention, sanity)
the secret for everyone involved (IMO) is to network and find other patients so that you always have someone to reach out to when the need arises. Two heads are better than one and they usually know 2 other heads who know 2 other heads...repeat/repeat/etc. :stoned: I know how hard it is for some folks to come topside and to even admit to others they are a patient but until you do you will be all alone and at the mercy of others who will tell you how well they are treating you as they are simultaneaously reaching around for the wallet in yer back pocket.
there is strength in numbers in many facets in this game. As a patient you have more power than you think. If each one of you wrote a passionate, open letter to the Editor of a newspaper and told how MMJ has changed your llife you may sway that ONE vote that will make the difference in the end.
and if each one of you reached out and made contact with another patient you may just make a friend for life....someone who can relate to you and still LIKE you even on your worst days.
"Use your head. Use your heart. Save yourselves"
I agree with you 200%. In my painful world i have 3 people i know i can call on and they will be there for me on my worset of days and spend the best of my days with they are my husband, sister-in-law,and mother-in-law thats it if i didnt have them i would have no one and then i realize there is someone out there right now that doesnt have one person they can call they really have no one. I want to make it so that everyone has someone. I am here if you need to talk let me know on here and i will send you my email. I cant win this pain battle on my own so i dont expect anyone else to do it alone.
Thank you blackhash you are a friend that everyone needs also.

This is a very serious situation. I went to a republican county meeting where Susana Martinez was speaking. It was very creepy with her husband armed with a 45 automatic handgun, two additional magazines, two sets of handcuffs and a badge, taking up position on the door. After that meeting I resigned from the local party and never went back.
I hate the idea of becoming politically active again, but all of us need to pull together to vote her out and send her back to Las Cruces.

Very passionate Hash. I always enjoy what you have to say.
In all respects, The train may have left station but who's driving the thing? Lol
There is a ton of work left to be done on the tracks themselves and towns to be connected.. This program is a rabbit on the highway and On the other side is nothing less then survival. ,for some, and prison free for others. You know what I am talking about.
In the game of life here ,as we all know it, wolves are looking for their piece of meat along the way and of course there are those who would rather just clean the street and wipe the program clean off the road completely. Either way. I know it sounds pessimistic but Martinez- is very well known for her slander tactics and under handing all things she deems "unfit" (she seems to believe in reefer madness ) Lol, seriously who knows? Unfortunately a lot of the public may not believe her on this issue but they do support her other causes which could dominate the many important programs needing attention right now. In truth and by fact She is more interested in Mexican nationals and making them legal United States citizens? Martinez and Vigil hold immigration in higher regard then our mmj program?
Send lots of letters like Hash said.
New Mexico Office of Border Health (http://nmborderhealth.org/US-MXBorderHealthCommission.shtml) ;) lol haha jk
couldnā??t resist. Seriously there are addresses at this link if you actually want to send some letters or story of your life to our wonder of compassion,.. Vigil.

Martinez is most likely going to bury herself but ?
Honestly,.. In reality Martinez would have to do some serious battling ( I mean some serious boxing ) Too even move on her intentions to end this program ,but, If she makes it too Gov ,then, I feel a bigger battle ahead to maintain ones independence with freedom of choice as too their medical care.
II agree with you Hash and completely respect your opinions. I hope mankind can stay somewhat ā??Kindā?

Very wise.
Yes, I understand we are driving. I would never argue the fact that mmj is here to stay, I would also never argue its potential in all aspects, Or itā??s evolution into one unbelievable diversified miracle plant.
I believe in this plant completely, have used it for many years and would not stop using it either just because some fool told me too. My neck is on the chopping block along with every other person whom wants to stop being persecuted because of our need for proper and safe medication. My body is shutting down and I donā??t want to spend the rest of my days or years locked up. I especially donā??t want to die there.
I really appreciate your optimistic out look blackhash. It helps me to become a little more positive about my future and the future of these programs. I acted on your advice and things are looking up. Canā??t say much more;)
I was part of the green cross (now the emerald cross I believe?) in Washington State,. Now New Mexico and soon my home state of Colorado where I will spend the rest of my (hopefully) years.
I will continue to do what I can, as long as I can, where I can.
This miracle plant has saved me mind, body and soul., given me hope and a quality of life I would not other wise have. I will keep on driven that train my friend:jointsmile:
Peace
BTW- Martinez is spooky but hopefully just another bump in the road.

My Neighbor and I were talking yesterday, He and I have never spoke of marijuana. I never mentioned that I am a part of this program either and a good thing I didn't.
I get curious as to others stand point on this issue, so I kind of slipped the mmj thing into our conversation and man was I blown away when he told me that our other Neighbor died from a marijuana overdose.? LMFAO
I told him that I didn't think that it was possible (of course it is not possible) and that there has never been a recorded death related directly to a marijuana overdose. Even after the discovery that our neighbor actually died from a meth and other mixed drug cocktail he still remains adamant. Regardless of the facts he is one of those people we can try and educate but he is firm about mmj or marijuana being a very bad gateway drug that infects us all, .Go figure? He knows nothing about my mmj thing and it will remain that way. You can't persuade those whom are not willing to listen or at least look at the facts. IMO my neighbors attitude towards MMJ defines Martinez to a tee.
Also on another note: It may be an Amendment, but, Amendments can be replaced with another amendment, (just like prohibition it can go either way) I understand you can't remove an amendment but you sure as hell can revise it too another. Again heaven and earth will have to be moved first but it only takes one to sway the balance in politics
Mrs. Martinez is also pissing off Richardson and Johnson ,so, she's f#$ked in my book but you never know?

I received this email today from the Republican party, and returned the following letter.
From: XXX XXXXXXX
Subject: Martinez for Governor 4'x4' road signs
To: "Removed per forum rules"
Date: Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 10:14 PM
Hello all, I am contacting county party chairmen/chairwomen in rural counties across the state to see if you are interrested in purchasing 'Martinez for Governor' 4'x4' road signs for your counties.
The Martinez camp is raising and spending the majority of their funds to purchase television advertising leading up to election day.
Many rural counties believe in the effectiveness of these large road signs. So if you and your county leadership are interrested in these signs, they can be purchased for $10 each.
Please contact XXX XXXXXXX (removed per forum rules) by Friday, Sept. 3rd - before 3pm to get your order in.
I hope all is going well - XXX
My letter in return:
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:
About a year ago I had a major relapse of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), so severe the doctors put me on Social Security Disability and I lost my ability to work. The Drugs the doctors have me on is Methotrexate, and Humira (Adalimumab Injection) with other prescribed pain medication which has caused me to loose over 60 pounds of weight. My primary care physician and a rheumatologist (who specializes in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases) prescribed medical marijuana to counter the loss of appetite and chronic pain.
The Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act, has worked very well in my case, my weight has stabilized, (still low) and I am finely getting relief from Rheumatic disease, characterized by severe pain, inflammation, fatigue associated muscle soreness and stiffness. There is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis and the goals of treatment are to relieve symptoms, improve function, slow progression of the disease.
Ms. Martinez, has come out wanting to dismantle the "The Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act," in favor pharmaceutical drugs for pain, which have very harsh side effects, affect the function of the liver and kidneys and requiring very expensive blood tests. These pharmaceutical drugs simply do not work.
Therefore, I am not going to support Ms. Martinez, in terms of money or votes. I also have taken newspaper articles around, to my friends and family showing Ms. Martinez's attack on crochronically people like myself, which have caused many people to reconsider their support.
Governor Richardson stated in a Mar. 16, 2007 press release:
"This bill will provide much-needed relief for New Mexicans suffering from debilitating diseases while including the proper safeguards to prevent abuse. I am pleased that the legislature did the right thing, reconsidered this important bill and supported a humane option for New Mexicans who endure some of the most painful diseases imaginable."
I pray to God that none of you ever get a disease like this and loose as much as I have in the last year and half.
Shame on you Ms. Martinez and the Republican party for your war on chronically ill people.
XXXXXXX X XXXXX
name removed
This is going to make some big waves in the party, going out to the Republican county party chair-people. In other words My name is mud.

That is cool!
Thank you, however I just put a target on my back being a former county party chairman. So it goes.
I also sent a copy of my letter to Ms. Martinez and I would encourage others to do the same.
You can google "contact Suzanna Martinez" to send her a direct message, I cannot post her email address per forum rules but google works well for this.
I hate politics and wish they would just leave us alone, however when your back is against the wall its time to come out swinging. I am sure my in-box is going to heat up, when the emails come in I will post them on this thread with names and addresses removed per forum rules.
If anyone else has written a letter please post them, I would love to read them.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> RESPECT! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
????
Respect denotes both a positive feeling of esteem for a person or other entity (such as a nation or a religion), and also specific actions and conduct representative of that esteem. Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected (e.g., "I have great respect for her judgment"). It can also be conduct in accord with a specific ethic of respect. Rude conduct is usually considered to indicate a lack of respect, disrespect, whereas actions that honor somebody or something indicate respect. I have none for martinez

Thanks for the kind words.
RA really hurts bad, it never stops day or night, then you feel sick from the methotrexate and Humira on top of it. Take a pain pill for relief, not quite, it just doesn't work. Stronger pain pills great, that is real good for your liver and kidneys. Then there is $600.00 dollar blood tests every three months, every month in my case due to anemia.
Then my own (former) political party is attacking the only relief that has worked so far, labeling people with chronic or terminal illness as dope heads or addicts, that is mean and downright cruel.
I'm not looking for sympathy or pity, there are many more patients in far worse shape than me and my heart goes out to you.
That is why I have confronted Ms. Martinez, on her own website. Being a well known former Republican County Chairman, has made some big waves and I'm sure that the emails from their lists will stop, now that I am one of them. So be it.
I hope my example will inspire others to take up the fight, educate the public, write letters, and become politically active regarding the MMJ program.
This is truly a war that the Republican party is waging on chronic and terminally ill people.
Shame on you Ms. Martinez, SHAME ON YOU!!!
