ok i'm using a 400 watt mh light in a grow space of 5ft x 4ft x 2ft i have some seeds that came out a bag of regular smoke(i know, i know lol but i also got some feminized crystal, ice, and white widow seeds too) I have the lights about 19 inches above plants temp is around 77-80 degrees and humidity is at 50-55% i have plenty of circulation and idk if it does anything but mixed up sum sugar and yeast. Some of my plants (the bag seeds only) have holes in the leaves is this normal or should i be worried. I have pics also and if ne one sees anything else please let me know lol these plants are about 3 wks old. Will keep posting till harvest thanks for the help guys and gals i will b n touch again i'm sure lol:)

I'm no expert, I'm on my third indoor grow now but i would just watch them and see if it happens to the more mature leaves. Doesn't look like you over did it on the flood time of your system and doesn't look like anything I've seen neauts do either. Is your light fixture air cooled? If not watch the heat level that reaches your babies. I have a friend useing 400w hps not air cooled with a built in balast and he keeps his light like 36" away at all times or risks cooking them. I didn't really think simple sugars help much in the vegatative state. I use Bud Candy and Black Strap Molasis in my flowering stage but not when vegging. Hope this helps :rasta:

Oh one more thing the temp in your enclosure doesn't always represent the temp getting to the top of your plants. To get an accurate temp hold your measuring device right at top of plant and see what that is, obviously with the light on.:rasta:

thanks for responding well the tube is air cooled about 78 degrees with the lights on (no intake was thinkn about hooking up one to the other side of tube) but thats hooked up to 6" outtake fan to carbon filter ?(do i even need it hookd up to that this early)and humidity has been about 45-50%gonna do the thermometer thing ya talked about tho i've just had it on the floor in the center of the room. also lights are about 19 inches above plants and tube doesnt feel warm i can easily hold my hand under it for a long time with no burning

They look fine. I didn't follow the whole yeast sugar issue, but whatever. What you are seeing in that leave is a bit of history. Plants aren't so good at correcting past mistakes if you know what I mean. Chop off a branch and it's not likely to grow back. Cut a leaf in half and it wont return. So knowing that, yes it's apparent that something went wrong early on. It's possible the sugar yeast issue did produce this effect, but they have long gotten over it and they look to be producing nice growth from here on. If the newest growth doesn't look normal then something else is going wrong. I'm not seeing that though. Those leaves will always look like that, but likely you fixed the issue and new leaves will look normal.

I think the sugar and yeast was mixed in separate container to make CO2, right?
Maybe the holes in the leaves are from bugs :(
Make sure that ph doesn't get higher than 6, better off having it from around 5.2 to 5.9 for best nutrient uptake.
Also might want to look into CalMag+ since you are in hydro and using distilled water http://boards.cannabis.com/hydroponics/155387-if-you-use-ro-distilled-water-you-need-calmag-plus.html:twocents:

hello thanks for responding the yeast and sugar issue was i'm using two 1 gallon jugs with a mix of 4 cups sugar and some yeast don't know if it does anything but was experimenting until i can get a real co2 system. and thanks for the post being a newbie isn't so bad as long as people are willing to share their experience and knowledge i also have more pics on my page on here feel free to look and any knowledge offered will b gratefully appreciated.:D also havent seen any bugs at all

idk what these are i know theres a million strains out there just was wondering if any one had any suggestions on what this may b as far as indica or sativa also in the middle and right pic is that a normal type of growth to be so bunched up like that with so many leaves sorry about all the questions guys I just got alot of free time :)

Hey dude CalMag is a nutrient. Normally tap water has plenty of both, but distilled and Reverse Osmosis (RO) water don't. Both are essential for growing cannabis. You can get it easily at garden centers, Wal-Mart even has it I think.
They look indica dom (wide leaves), so should flower in 7-9 weeks.
As for the bunched up leaves, those are new growth tips, perfectly normal. They will eventually support more flowers. I like to bend my plants so that the top is parallel to the ground and more light gets to those lower shoots. It's called LST (Low Stress Training). More info in the first link of my sig. You can see examples of LST and Scrog training in my grow logs (also in my sig)

Once you start to tie things down and the plant grows, it'll take whatever shape you make it into. The older parts like the main stem will be permanently trained.
Not sure why you would change your mind later. It's a great technique for smaller grows. A 400w light doesn't penetrate all that well (compared to the 1000 watters that commercial growers use) and training lets you make the most of your lit area.
Just make sure you don't tie things too tightly around the stems, because the stems will grow a lot in width, and could get strangled.

Somehow missed this before, but having more than 1 plant per container is a bad idea. I would try to get those in individual pots ASAP before the roots get more tangled. They will eventually start fighting for food and water, and usually only the strongest survives :(
If they are already tangled too much you might need cut some roots. It's better to loose a week or two of growth vs. loosing a couple plants.

Finn is giving you good info. also, you want to stop LSTing your plants about 7-10 days before putting them into flower. this will give them time to recover from the stress of training.

hey bigtop yea i know i shouldn't have that many in there but i figured i could use them to experiment with since this is my first grow and they are just some crappy seeds neway lol my femmed seeds are one to a pot but thanks for the response was wondering are there any bugs that would be beneficial to have in the grow room cause i'm growing in my basement which is semi finished and seem to have alot of spiders in it. Also thanks headshake I wanted to ask that question but forgot.

spiders are good in the grow room. they eat all kinds of bugs and they don't eat plants.

did you rinse your hydroton before using? a rising pH is common with hydroton, especially when it's not rinsed. i'm not sure about the grodan cubes, but i think they are rockwool. you should also soak rockwool in properly pH'd water before using (for at least an hour or so).
your pH is a little high as well. you want to aim for 5.3-5.8 in hydro.
and as far as foliar feeding, if you decided to continue, it needs to be done BEFORE (or just after the lights turn on) so the moisture evaporates during the light cycle. also, raise your light when you do this or you risk leaf burn.
finally, like Finn already said, you HAVE TO USE CALMAG (or some cal/mag supplement)!

hey headshake well i did rinse the hydroton b4 i started with tap water for about 20 min b4 putting in pots, as far as ph i'm using the chemical drops and the color i'm coming up with is kinda a mix between the 5 and 6 range(really need to get that digital reader keep forgetting tho). also thanks for the recommendations on the foliar feed definitely helpful and forgot to put the calmag on the list on there but i do have some. was wondering if anyone has used a fertilizer with 20/20/20 would this be good for seedlings and veg and thanks again for the help guys
headshake
09-03-2010, 02:12 AM
the water you use on your hydroton needs to be properly pH'd too. definitely get that digital meter. it's especially important in hydro as the medium doesn't act as a buffer like it does in soil.
that fertelizer will be fine for veg.

The rinsing of your rocks probably didnt do much good. You should properly rinse them and then soak them for about 24 hours in PH corrected water... Like shake said, the PH will give you trouble throughout the grow if not properly done.

wow ok lol lil update took 2 pots out of room leaving 6 total pots I had 2mystery plants in one of the pots and 3 in another, practiced some cloning with 3 of those leaving one mystery plant in each pot I also pruned and cleaned up some of the leaves around the top and bottom of those plants also I also started 1 white widow and 3 crystal plants all are from feminized seeds and all are 1 week old. Now the problem I have occuring is that i will be moving in 60 days my mystery plants are about a month old now and I have the 1 wk old plants any ideas on how to pull this off guys for some reason i've hit a wall lol will post some pics asap and once again thanks guys.:)

ok well guess it's time for another update and some more pics:) I am on 1/2 strength nutes now i'm thinking everything is going ok i've been LST ing and pruning the mystery plants so the younger girls (i hope they r neway) can catch up. i've been noticing some brown spots on the older leaves also the tips have been drying out i've noticed ?(is this normal) I'm able to keep the light less than 12 inches above the plants the light is not hot at all I can hold my hand on the tube forever and it hardly warms my hand could this be nutrient burn or mayb just bad genetics because my white widow plant don't have ne of these problems also these plants seem really short not over 7 inches for ne of them i rotate them often trying to get equal amounts of light to the whole plant. are they so short because the lights are so close lol sorry bout all the questions just never did this b4 and don't know what's norm or not. thanks for reading and also for any info left
