try covering the rockwell with clay pellets so the rockwell can't see light I think it should be ok:stoned:

You could also cover the bottom with a paper plate (cut a hole for your plant stem to go through) You don't want to let any light get to the rockwool or your plant roots.

If neither of those fit your fancy you can use spare Panda film (black and white poly) to make little block covers. Only really need to worry about this until you get a canopy going, then the shade from plant(s) will help alot.

thanks guys, i covered it with rocks and may try the paper plate if a problem starts
but all in all my plants are good - the stems are really strong especially
heres a few more pics of the progress
ps...ive switched to 8 hours off 16 on like smokemypiece said to try, and in like 4 days ive seen a huge difference in growth!
alsoooo a couple leaves are curling and a a couple leaves on the lower part of my tall plant have black spots and are a little yellow and have clearly stopped growing - ph levels have all been maintained

Well they picked up quick in 4 days
Just be sure to pick a lighting schedule u like and stick with it. Dont wanna jump around too much.
I think black spots are either mold or mites. Looks like it might be a little mold. if so, cut the infected areas carefully and get rid of em (Can spread easily thru the air).
Id wait for a nute specialist to chime in tho  Could disinfect the area in the meantime; mites and mold love dirty grow areas [from experience]:hippy:

yup, i think it is mold
its starting to spread a little bit too now the other plant has like 3 spots
how do i cut it? i mean like if its just on the tip of the leaf should i cut the top half off? or if its all over a leaf where should i cut it?
and also how do i control mold? its not to humid in here but again im not trying to control the humidity or temp just yet
in my room it is about 85 on average and i keep a fan constantly blowing

I like Toon's suggestion about the tron not being pre-soaked. i thot i read earlier that you soaked em, but i may be confused. when MJ's young it can be easily influenced by impurities. (thats y i dont use it, but its b/c im too lazy for this step :stoned:)
Id hate for you to cut this early unless its last resort.

yea i had soaked the tron for about 3 days before puting in the plants
im in a "new england" type climate as well tiny toon
the plants are in my room, in a makeshift closet made out of black garbage bags and tin foil but i plan on building a small closet once the plants really start to grow
could the mold be from water splashing up from the tron? because ive noticed the first sets of leaves on one plant have been covered in water so ive brushed it off
maybe turning down my air pump? but im thinking thats doubtful...again, the mold is only on a few leaves, the rest of the plant looks immaculate :rastabanna: haha i love that word

If you can turn the pump down a lil that wont hurt. How often do the drip rings run or are they 24/7?? Just looks awfull "wet", even the leaves have this like "I want to dry out a lil" look on them. I can understand the DIY tent, do you have air circulation in there like an ossilating fan?? Be carefull with the tin foil as wrinkles can create hot spots and burn the plants.

Maybe some more Venting?
From what i read, it sounds like the grow area is acting like a big humidity dome..
-Heat, water, and a garbage bag would deff hold excess moisture = mold.

TY so much! All I can say is I read everything I can find and have very good retention of what is read. Only prob I have is I wish I could forget the stuff that is useless because sometimes I actually feel like my head is "full". Just like to get risd of like the address when I was 6 or our phone number when I was 7 or so along with grade school friends numbers, addresses and such.

I am using the Ebb and Flow system and have a bad algae prob. I didn't want to risk chemicals to my babies. So I thought of a solution that SO FAR is working. I went to walmart and bought three algae eating fish and put into my water holding talk. The fish eat the algae and poo in the tank. the poo water is pumped to the babies along with my hydro ferts. it's seems to be a symbiotic relationship.

Like stated before, its too wet. How are your roots looking? If they are touching the water then you can cut back on your dripper and that will help. Hope everything turns out ok!
Hey Gatekeeper... you should check out Aquaponicherbs grows.
He uses fish and all sorts of things that might be right up your alley!

Keep in mind that the fish might be helping to lesson your problem with algae but it doesn't solve the problem. It is most likely something fairly simple to figure out, if you could throw up a pic or 2 that would help.
