the title says it all folks...

I really don't want to get an RO system because of all the water they waste and slow flow rate .5gmp is NOT what I need for several large resevoirs...

Is 470PPM too high? I plan on using all organic nutrients and I could just go easy on the nutes...

What should I do?

You can try it but I think there is no way around a filter. If not R/O then a good filter will bring it down without the waste water.

If I remember what I read once, then anything over 200 out the tap can lead to issuses. Even putting a Brita filter on the faucet would be better than that.

Your tap water sounds like mine and like they both have said it will not work out for you with that high of PPM. Not sure you will be able to do this where you live but where I live I have access to RO water vending machines in shopping centers. I drive my truck and take a big 5 gallon plastic bottle and two "new/clean" trash cans and fill them up with the amount of RO water I need.

Cost me $1.25 per 5 gallons so not too bad and a lot better that buying big RO system.

Thanks everyone. I'm definitely looking into buying an RO system as lugging 40 gallons worth of water upstairs to my condo doesn't seem appealing to me LOL. I have an attached PUR water system that hooks onto my faucet. Doesn't do a thing according to my TDS meter. I'm probably going to buy a tankless RO system and fill a 40 gallon tote or something and make sure I don't leave or forget about it while it's filling...

PUR filters do nothing. Brita filters actually work and will drop your TDS count.

Thougbh with water that hard, you're probably better off just getting a hardwater-specific nutrient solution if you don't want to goof with an RO system.

hmmm. I am thinking about using an aquarium water conditioner. They are supposed to instantly get rid of chlorine and 'de-toxify' heavy metals. Hm...

could always try a zero waste R/O system. I have one, works great.

Sorry bro for the idea, forgot to mention you need to be in a single story house with a garage and your grow room 10 feet away. :) Good luck with the grow and PPM.

I do not believe the fish water conditioner will do what you are looking for, not for sure but dont believe so.

Never know when you have to pack up and run. LOL. So we got the 150 model. Makes more than we need and portable.

thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to buy an on faucet brita filter. Seemed to bring my friend's water down a couple hundred ppm. Going to let the water sit overnight to get rid of the chlorine. The fish aquarium water conditioner is definitely NOT what I want as all it does is make the toxins clump together so they can be removed by the fish filter. Plus it isn't organic and will mess up my 100% organic label. I will let you all know my PPM readings after the brita filter
