I'm really considering buying one of these lighting systems off of Amazon. Before I pull the trigger on the deal though, I just wanna ask if anyone has ever used one for Cannabis growing, and if they work well or not for it. I did some reasearch on the internet, but didn't really see anything mentioning the particular usage of it for Cannabis seedlings and clones, just a bunch of old ladies talking about their award winning vegtables and/or flowers.

Does anyone think I will have any problems sprouting 5-10 seeds and rooting 10-15 clones under this set up?

Ok, so after much debate, I decided to go down to my local hydro shop and have them order the 2ft Hydrofarm T5 Jump Start Light System as a display for me to inspect. Here is my official findings on the system.

The Stand: The Hydrofarm Jump Start stand is great. It went up really sturdy and is super simple to assemble and use. I really like it and recommend it.

The Light Fixture: The fixture was decent in generic terms, nothing spectacular about it.

The T5 Bulb: Again, low quality and generic with only a single tube. However it would get the job done.

I ended up not buying the system as a whole, instead I bought just the stand for it. I then purchased a 48' inch compatable Hydrofarm 2-tube light fixture and 2 Agrosun T12 fluorescent tubes for it. I am much more confident in this customized T12 Jump Start set up, however I do think the Hydrofarm Jump Start T5 Light System itself would work for starting seedlings and rooting a personal supply of clones.

Here are some pics of the Green Crack clones I just cut, along with 2 extra rockwool cubes containing germinating Hash Plant seeds. :rastasmoke:

I don't really understabd much, but I generally know that more wattage is better. In this case, what do you say for the DIY CFL guide found in http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-lighting/121311-el-cheapo-guide-lighting.html?

If you put four of those CFLs together they produce between 80 - 112 watts per socket, and everything costs about $20, or less if you can find good deals.

Wattage can be misleading. Wattage is the amount of energy your light unit is consuming, not the amount of light it is producing. What determines the amount of light it is producing are Lumens. The two are connected because generally more wattage = more lumens.

With that being said, the link you provided above is a great resource to getting started. CFL is the most inexpensive way to get started growing, however personally I don't recommend it. High Pressure Sodium lights are worth every extra penny you pay for them in the long run.

Start with CFL for a few grows, then move up to HPS when you can afford it.

Good luck and happy growing man.... :hippy:
