Well, he was pretty much JPII's right hand man, so there's no reason he would be completely different. I think he'll just continue like his predecessor, but in his own way.
I also heard something interesting. Before John XXIII became pope, he was one of the more conservative cardinals out there, but once he became pope, he initiated Vatican II, where Ratzinger was also present... I think this guy got an unfair rap of being conservative because of the post he occupied. He was the doctrinal supervisor, and had to make sure all the catholics weren't deviating from their dogma. Given that job, it's only normal he would come across as a hard-ass. I think he'll be a good pope too.

He's pretty damn old. I wouldn't be surprised if he dies next week from partying too hard and we have to go through this pope choosing hell again

Hey, cut the poor old guy a break. He's only got like 3 years left in him anyway, I figure. Best save the protests for greater injustices.
And to be fair, he was in the NAZI Youth, not Hitler Youth. Nazi Youth automatically listed everyone as a member. Hitler Youth you had to sign up for voluntarily and attend meetings for. <---That's only how I heard it from a friend who said he read it in a paper. Could be wrong for all I know.

People are making too much of this Hitler Youth thing. Didn't it occur to people that young boys HAD to join the Hitler youth? It's not like they had a choice... I guarantee you that every single German man of his age has spent time in Hitler Youth. They had to.
