Can you use an extension cord to get electricity up there? Otherwise you probably wont be able to power a strong enough light off batteries. Also, does the attic have good ventilation? If not you will need to put a fan up there to reduce heat, provide a breeze to strengthen the plants, and circulate oxygen out and CO2 in. I would say that it is pretty unrealistic to expect any worthwhile results unless you can get a power chord up there. Finally, do you have good lights? Its a waste of time if you are planning on using halogen or incandescent lights, it doesnt matter how many watts you have it is simply the wrong spectrum and they give off too much heat. You will need flourescent lights (or HPS/MH if you have money to spend). Trying to grow marijuana half-assed ends up being a waste of time, so unless you are willing to have a quality setup I would say its not worth it.

Hope that helps ya out

I don't think growing at your grandparents is a great idea at all.
but that ain't the question is it
1. You need ELECTRICITY
2. You need HIGH POWER EXTENSIONS, this is hard, as you will need to be able to run about 500 watts for a medium size grow. (fans, 400 watt light, C02)

Now, first thing to do is to set up your project. A grow box is nice because you can play god better than out in the open. So figure out how to build one or not use one (this also helps for light as you can hang mylar) You can do something as simple as hang mylar sheets all around where you grow from the ceiling, but putting them on wood pannels is ideal. Then you will most likely need a fan, a small dayton will work. a 400 watt hps is no PC fan deal. (I assume 400 watts as that is what you need to really make it worthwhile, under that you can only grow 4-6 plants, with 400 you can grow out the whole pack[10]) Then get 3-5 gallon pots, 3 probably for space. and then you have a set up, if smell is a concern, it shouldnt be in the attic, get a carbon filter. And seeds of course. Once you do something like that ask about strains growing and the fun begins

aka... you shouldnt bother growing weed -- at least not in this particular attic setting.
