Earlier today, police raided the house of a medical marijuana patient/caregiver. Check out: From the comments: readers discuss a seizure of 40 pounds of marijuana and five weapons found in Saginaw Wednesday | MLive.com (http://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2010/07/from_the_comments_readers_disc.html#_login)

Of course people commented on how great it is that this "criminal" is off the street. The reporter from mlive.com conveniently forgot to mention that this was medical marijuana. The "suspect" is being held pending investigation. They made a big deal about the fact that they found guns too. But they didn't mention that all his guns were legal. Anyway, I'm sure not too many people are gonna scroll all the way down to read my comment, so I'm gonna repost it here. I wrote it out then added the beginning before I posted. I noticed some grammar errors so I corrected them here. No sense correcting them on the mlive page since my comment's probably gonna be erased real soon.

I wrote this comment then realized something I need to add to the beginning in order for it to make sense.

Wow, I just realized that this article doesn't even mention that it was medical marijuana. The "suspect" is a card carrying medical marijuana patient and caregiver. Thats why the guy's name hasn't been released and "charges are pending investigation". What kind of article is this. They left out a MAJOR detail! The only thing this guy is guilty of is possessing more than is allowed according to the Michigan medical marijuana program. They didn't say if it was dry or not. Processed could mean that it was trimmed but not completely dry. Wet marijuana will decrease in weight at a 1:8 ratio. So 40 pounds wet would yield 5 pounds of usable marijuana. Chances are he probably did have more than the medical marijuana program allows. Its a program rule, not a law. The worst thing this guy faces is a bull-crap court battle and possibly (doubtful) losing his caregiver's card.

OK, now for my original comment:

A lot of people are completely ignorant about this stuff. Cannabis can be used to treat hundreds of different illnesses. Before you side with the police, why don't you get a copy of a documentary called "Waiting to Inhale". At least do some research before you start posting.
Cocaine and morphine, and Oxycontin (highly abused opiates which are more potent and addictive than heroin) are legal for medicinal purposes. Cocaine and morphine have been legal since the beginning of the Controlled Substance Act. The reason plants such as cannabis, poppies, and coca are illegal is: American pharmaceutical can't regulate the costs of something that anybody can grow. The legalization of medical marijuana probably costs pharmaceutical companies billions every year.
No educated (on the subject) person really believes that marijuana is harmful. The only scientific evidence that people often cite deals with either the mental side effects or the harm that inhaling any smoke would cause to your lungs. Might I remind you that marijuana doesn't have to be smoked in order to achieve therapeutic benefit. It can be added to any food recipe, condensed and put into capsules, made into a tonic, topical lotion, etc. Most medications have side effects, many of them more intoxicating than marijuana. Everybody knows either someone who has no memory and stumbles around like a drunk caused by the side effects of benzodiazapines, or someone who constantly falls asleep while doing normal tasks caused by side effects of opiates.
As far as the guns go, it's our right to protect ourselves. You'd be an idiot to have a bunch of medication sitting around with no protection. "Take the guns off the street"? They weren't on the street, they were at a caregiver's private property. No one ever said that the guns weren't registered. Believe me, if they were illegal, or the "suspect" was being charged with a gun crime, it would've been reported, exploited, and blown way out of proportion. What makes his gun collection anyone's business?
Before you demonize something that you know nothing about, think about terminally sick cancer patients who can't afford to buy Marinol, Oxycontin etc. Think about what would've happen if the "suspect" felt threatened by the police and decided to use his guns. Think about the emotional state of cops who sincerely wanna help people but are forced to screw over innocent people throughout there careers. Think about the sick people who relied on the "suspect" as a caregiver and now have to get there medication on the street. Think about the thousands of legal medical marijuana patients who now feel threatened by the police. If you do the research, think about the victims, and still feel that this raid/arrest is justified, then you have no soul.

This article is a classic example of bullshit on the part of the police and the media. One commenter started with "I can't believe all the comments I'm reading here" but it looks like all the pro-pot comments have been deleted. Ha ha theres only 4 comments left. I'm sure by the time anyone gets over there, the mlive moderator will have deleted mine too.

Today I learned that the so called suspect was released with no charges being filed. Yeah, great, are they gonna return his plants? Not likely. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come here in Michigan.
