This is my first grow and I just put my plants on 12/12 from 24 last night. I have a beautiful 2.5ft female sativa who is in pre-flower, and the other plants have not shown their sex yet. I was wondering how long does it take in 12/12 for the males to pollinate? Being that the other plants have not shown their sex, I do not want to go and trash plants that could be female, yet I will destroy all males at first site. My concern is that pollination could take place. I of course do not want to miss out on my for sure ladies harvest either. Do males need time to grow mature pollen sacks beyond visible signs that they are male to pollinate? Any help would be appreciated.

From the time that they are obviously malesâ?¦.you have 10 days to cull males. So you can wait until youâ??re sure. If youâ??re not sure what that looks likeâ?¦start searching and looking at pictures, there are plenty posted on this site.

Best of luck,

takes about a week before your usually really sure of what you have. Even then you still have another few days or week before they really start causing trouble. A tan powder almost like saw dust is the pollen. You don't see that till you start seeing banana peppers on your males though.

Thanks for the info. I'm growing a mix of bag seeds, mostly good plants gone bad type stuff, so there is no consistency whatsoever in my grow room. Three days into 12/12 and the obvious female sativa is getting huge and growing more and more white hairs. A few of the indicas are taking off nicely also but I still have some time before they start to show. Though I know it is necessary, it will be a little hard to kill off the guys at first after putting so much care into them. After this first grow though I don't think that males will be a problem now that I have this healthy female to clone.
