I bought a contactor about a year ago as my timers kept blowing with the 600wt but i've forgotten what to plug into what :( typical stoner...I know 1 plugs into the timer and the other to the mains but does the timer plug into the unit or the mains and then plug the contactor into the timer

Dont know if this will help you... but its worth a go :)
I've had trouble with timers blowing up.. 2 infact blew on me.
Finally I fiquired out the problem...
I would plug the timer into the wall in my bedroom, plugged in the extension lead into the timer, then ran the 20 metre extension cable from my bedroom up into the attic, then at the end of the extension cable I put a 4 socket "gang" lead.
That setup blew 2 of my timers. :(
So then what I did is take the timer from my bedroom & plugged it into the socket in the attic, so now the light was directly plugged into the timer, i've now had the timer for 4months & its still doing great.
Hopes this helps, peace.

The timer should be wired to operate the contactor. A contactor is nothing more than a switch that needs a way (timer or manual overide) to tell it when to turn on and off.
