Could Be Marijuana That Determines the November Election
Published

Published June 30th, 2010

The wild card in November??s election is marijuana.

How much more money Meg Whitman spends on her gubernatorial campaign is significant but the kind of voters drawn to the polls by Proposition 19, which legalizes marijuana and allows localities to tax and regulate it, may be the determining factor.

Asked at the state Democratic Party convention in April how Democrats can re-energize President Obama voters from 2008, Party Chair John Burton replied: ??Pot.?

Without arguing the merits of legalization, Burton said the ballot measure ??will turn out people.?

The already high-profile proposition would allow cities and counties to adopt ordinances that license and regulate the ??cultivation, processing, distribution, transportation and sale? of marijuana.

Some estimates say taxing retail sales, which are limited to one ounce to persons 21 years of age or older, could raise up to $1.4 billion annually.

??There will be national media interest and public curiosity,? said Mark Baldassare, president and chief pollster of the Public Policy Institute of California.

??The question is how much the campaigns will work to engage voters,? Baldassare said. ??Will the ??yes?? side seek to mobilize young voters who are more inclined to support legalization? Will the ??no?? side counter with efforts to get out the vote among older voters less inclined to support legalization??

Supporters of Proposition 19 say no mobilization is necessary ?? the voters are coming to them.

The ??yes? campaign recently noted its number of Facebook friends surpassing 100,000. Proposition 19 supporters note the opposition has only six Facebook friends.

??This will translate into motivated volunteers, donors, increased voter turnout and 100,000 people spreading the word to their friends and neighbors with a passion and intensity that our opponents?? lonely six fans will never match,? said Dan Newman, a spokesman for Tax Cannabis 2010.

??Our research shows that a large number of occasional voters, particularly younger voters, will show up at the polls specifically to vote for this initiative,? Newman said.

An April 2009 Field Poll found 56 percent of California voters supporting legalizing and taxing marijuana. But Newman counters the appeal of the proposition to ??low-propensity? voters means polls don??t show the full level of support.

??It will be the darling of the national media, that??s for sure,? said Allan Zaremberg, president of the California Chamber of Commerce.

One of the proposition??s major sponsors is S.K. Seymour LLC in Oakland, which does business as Oaksterdam University which bills itself as ??America??s first cannabis college.?

Pot proponent??s mom hits the campaign trail
June 28, 2010

Richard Lee sank $1.4 million of his Oaksterdam business empire's money into putting a marijuana legalization measure on November's ballot, but it wasn't until this week that he rolled out his secret weapon: his 80-year-old, conservative Republican mom from Texas.

Those who believe a corporate take over of the US cannabis market should remember, most US corporations are producing their products in China. And, as with everything else from China, its shit, tainted with poisons, fertilized with human wastes, and packaged in sweat shops. If you want to keep control at home, Vote yes on Prop. 19. :D :pimp:

:D no doubt. I thought you might like that. I don't know this dude or anything just from what I've read but he is from Texas :pimp:

he seems legit to me. the dude has the goose that laid the golden egg right now. he owns one of the four authorized medical dispensary in Oaksterdam. and, one might assume, may become the proprietor of the nations very first non medical dispensary :smokin: ... if this prop passes and the local authorities have enuff cojone's to authorize it.

Hope his mom doesn't scare all the sensitive types that inhabit California. Ive seen the guy in numerous movies and documentaries and his cause is a noble one......he's the kinda nerdy looking guy in a wheelchair? Wears glasses? We'll get this stuff on the ballots here in Texas soon enough.......came THIS close to electing a mayor who was for decriminalization.

Question for those legal beagels on here.......if my state decriminalized marijuana.....would I be able to go back and try to remove misdemeanor marijuana convictions from my criminal record? Even if they were like 11 years ago? Or is there a statute of limitations?

He's not running much of a campaign yet and is failing the same way Poizner did, letting Meg talk without a counter-voice.

how is that battle going, eb? from I've heard both Jerry and Meg are trying to distance themselves from the prop. Its been a looong time since I lived out there but wasn't Brown the mayor of Oaksterdam right after Prop 215 who deputized the dispensary workers to protect them from shrub's gestapo? if so that was really cool of him. but don't tell anyone tho, he might get hammered in the prohib media if they knew that.

do you think Meg would attack prop 19 if it passes? I would bet she would be more likely that Brown, but I really don't know since I don't live out there anymore.

Whitmans winning currently. Rasmussen has it Whitman 51% and Brown 43%....others have it closer....averaged together its a dead heat.

Considering the economic tsunami California is in, it would be fiscaly stupid to go after the marijuana industry, the same applies nationwide. I firmly believe 75% of the nation from all sides. believe marijuana should be legalized.

Well, literally every single day the news gets worse for Democrats in just about every state........if things continue in this manner the Democrats could suffer the biggest electoral mid-term defeat in American History.

The Dems will lose the House......the Senate is a toss-up still but VERY,VERY, CLOSE.

1.Brown for Guv.I know his stance but he will advance in mid term right now he's the top cop.
2.Newsom for Lt.Guv
3.Prop 19 to win
Plus 1 Boxer to retatn her Senate Seat

its gonna drop more to....dont get your hopes up on it passing, all the money growers/dispensories are voting no! so the customers are probably going to vote no as well...so when the no vote goes through don't plan on there being anything about legalization again for a very long time, the thing arnold just signed, basically put the prop 19 to an end..

Yo Boaz.....question. Clearly you know your legal shit....so anyway I was speaking with a fellow grower buddy in the area here with alot of close ties to the California scene. He says that Prop 19 is going down in the polls because its a shitty bill designed by people who own or operate the BIG dispensary operations and the internet sites that go with them. They have the $$ and the bill will let them flourish while making the mom and pop grow ops far to expensive to maintain?

I havent a clue.......whats your thoughts on that.

And does 200$ for 10 feminized seeds of Hawaiin Ice sound ridiculous?

Ya gotta believe. And, on this one, I believe. That's why my attitude is tired, I'm tired of being lied to by elected officials and told I'm wrong when I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am, and everyone of us, is right, not only on this, but many other issues. Do your duty, flash the government the fickle finger and make it happen. :pimp:
