The system you pointed out is called a deep water culture system. You can make something just a simple for a lot less money. I'm not sure why they are charging nearly 200 bucks for something you can do with a 20 dollar tote and purpose built netpots.

The only limitation when it comes to DWC systems whether this one or one you build is that the temperature of the water needs to be in the mid 70's and no higher. The second the temperature reaches 80 you begin to grow algae instead. Other forms of hydro will tolerate higher temperatures say in the mid 80's such as ebb and flow types.

actually not to step on any toes in DWC the you dont want water to hit 80 or above and prime temp for putting oxygen into water is 68. Best form of DWC is single buckets, that way if any problems arise and need to remove a plant you dont have to fight with tangled roots. Bucket ($2), airstone ($2), airpump ($10), netpot ($3), medium (your choice) and light (again your choice) thats it. Algae does not grow if your temp hits 80, Root rot will start to happen instead. Only way you will get algae is if there is a light source getting into where it is not suppose to be, Res!!

It's all about size. LOL

Then we can really help you with options but it's up to you to get your feet wet. I say put the money in the light. Looking at some led's myself, they are looking real good on some grow logs here and save money. Look at these guy's grows you will learn alot. I am starting to love the buckets.
