I need some expert advice. This is were I am at I am going to be doing a DWC I have some black buckets, two air stones per bucket and an air pump, my lighting will be two, four foot T5 fixtures two bulbs per fixture. I started from seed with ph'd water on the napkins, when I they popped roots I then moved them to the suretogrow cubes. I have them sitting in a bed of hydroton in a pyrex container, under the pyrex container I have a heating mat. I keep the whole container in a plastic tote. Of the seven one looks a little bad of the six three are starting to grow tiny razor leaves.
I would like to know if I am on the right track, I am waiting for the roots to come through the bottom of the cube then I am going to place them in the bucket. I keep them in the plastic tote to avoid any light, and algae. Do I need to put them under any light for now or do I just keep them in the dark till the roots come out.

I can't believe 11 peeps looked at this and nobody said a word /sigh.
NEED LIGHT NOW!!!
As soon as the lil buggers pop their heads out of the STG they need light. Get them under light quick or you not gonna be happy :(

You came to my rescue, they are under lights now.
Should algae be something to worry about? I am also going to get them a fan. Any other advice you have would be awesome.
Thank you so, so much

You shouldn't have an algae problem period from start to finish the way your doing it. Just make sure res is light proof and if you can get some either black (preferably) or blue air line for your airstones as this is a good prevention measure against alge also.
I glad I logged on when I did, thats how we lost our first batch. Didnt know the lil buggers were starving for light until I sat down and spent couple hours reading, but I still can't believe noone said anything before me. I guess times change and so dont the people who hang out in forums lol.

i will feel bad if i visit this post and do not add anything now. so my advice is to sing to them. any problem you get just sing songs of joy to your plants. thats what got me past mold, over watering, gnats, and being root bound. its a cure all.:D
ok obviously i am jokeing but i dont have enough experienve to give you proper advice. all i could come up with is GIVE THEM LIGHT and sing to them of course:D
ok, dont feel so bad now that i put in my 2 cents!
good luck man, happy growing!!

After I added lights a lot of them folded over, broke and died. I have learned a lot from this experience.
This is what I was left with and I would like to know the opinion of the experts here as to how they look. I started from a germinated seed on July 1st, and this is what they look like know.
This is my first attempt at hydroponics.

I used pieces of a straw to hold them up I let them stretch way to much.
Thanks

I am using solid black buckets, and solid black lids, the hoses on the side of the bucket to measure the water level are blue I sealed the holes I drilled for the black fitting with black rtv silicone I sealed the black fitting with black rtv silicone. I am using blue air stones I purchased from Walmart (I am a little broke) I am using black solid hose to feed from air pump to air stones, I also sealed the holes in the lid were I put the air hose through with black rtv silicone. I am going to completely cover the STG cube with hydroton when I put them in the buckets.

Put a small fan on the seedlings to create a MILD breeze and this will help strengthen the stems. Just a lil wiggle from the plants is all you need.
