Just an idea, since I had a run in with this.

Making the boards read only to users that have not yet read to and agree to the rules of the forums. Users cannot make any posts unless they agree to and have read the forum rules.

This way there can never be any confusion to the rules or what is/isn't allowed to be said on the forums. For many, including myself this is an ongoing issue that the Mods have to address and correct. Instead of doing legwork on the forums, and keeping up with particular users, just ban on site at the first glimpse of a rule being broken, or have a system where users get a warning for a certain type of post, or a temp ban for another, and perm ban after so many offenses.

I use to own a web server and run a few sites. It is a fairly simple thing to do, just need to get the addon for it, I still have a vbulletin account, if you guys need anything let me know :)

I know I am on thin ice with most of the users here for C/P without giving credit, and for discussing non-allowed topics *which won't happen again* but I want to help in any way I can, I have all day at home on the computer, so this is usually what I do with all my time. I do work from home selling things on ebay so I am not a lowlife or a nobody, just got ideas that I need to vent out.

Thanks :)

yeah and making your first post the bumping of a thread from 2004 should be a insta-ban, or at least keep a rubber stamp handy that says "WTF" to slap on said persons foreheads in the event they decide to bump a thread from 2004 as their first official action on this website other than signing up..

If I did that then I apologize.....

I figured a thread that old should be closed automatically by now, not left open so people can post on it and you can get upset. I did a search on google for something and that thread was the first that popped up, so I was unaware that it was from 2004 in the first place. (if you are referring to me)

And quick question, why insta-ban for posting on an old thread? Some of the older threads have alot of useful info.

^^^ I did the exact same thing! Yahoo search, then a thread on this board popped up instantly. I was about to comment, and realised it was from 07. I think anything older than 6 months should be available to view, but closed for further discussion, to avoid scrutiny from the easily agitated on this board. :)

I'm guilty of both, so I totally understand the arguement.

haha but then you have the problem of starting a new thread on a topic there's already a thread for and getting yelled at for not searching first, so many gray areas in message board etiquette. and I thought stoners were supposed to be laid back :p
