TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iranian top diplomat strongly criticized Washington for portraying Iran as a dreadful threat posed to the region, saying that the move is aimed at justifying US military presence in the region.

"The US is pursuing an "Iranophobia" strategy to justify its [military] presence in the region, which is aimed at dominating its energy resources," Iran's Ambassador to Madrid Morteza Safari said at the meeting titled 'Iran Geopolitics and US 'Iranophobia' Policy in Middle East' in Madrid on Thursday.

"US mulls expanding its presence in the region by pursuing the 'Iranophobia' policy and has full access to regional energy resources," the envoy added, the Islamic republic news agency reported.

He described US failure for putting Iran under its control as the root cause of implementing `Iranophobia' policy.

The Iranian envoy further said that such policy is used "as psychological warfare against Iran by the US and its Western allies and has always been the cornerstone of US foreign policy over the past thirty years."

Its not Iranaphobia......its the borderline insane and psychotic policies of Irans LEADERS that are the problem....not the persian people. Odd how the people who actually live in Iran recognize this, yet so many spoiled westerners dont. Go thank a soldier you even have a computer right now and that you can type whatever you want......cause YA CANT IN IRAN HOMEBOY.

You are partially correct here. The Green Movement, while strong, is not overwhelmingly so. Otherwise they would have toppled the government through sheer force of numbers. Ahmadinejad may well have lost the election last year, but it was certainly close. What does that tell us? That support for the government isn't as weak as some would have us believe. Now I know you support attacking Iran, but think for a second, who will be hurt by this? For starters you can kiss the Green Movement goodbye as supports defect in droves to support the government, any government, from an external invader. I'm not sure that really matters in your calculations though.
