I'm thinking of setting up an 8' long room with 4 600w HPS lights (or equivalent of LEDs or induction). 2 lights on each side of the room. Using 6" square pots.

I was thinking of putting the plants at staggered heights to the light can penetrate more easily. But the tradeoff is they end up further from the light so i can't stagger them too far. (In this picture the pots are all 4" higher than the row below.)

Any thoughts on how i should work this setup?

2 and a 1/4 feet is kind of small to have 4 plants unless you're growing them short. I have an 8 foot room and place 15 plants in the center with a 1000w hps with a 4 foot parapbolic reflector and thats pretty tight. I would probably go with 2 rows of plants per side.

they are meant to be grown short, they will be flipped at about 12"-15", but you are right, they would need about 3' of height.
