This is my first grow that I'm trying and just wanted show you guys how it's going. I'm going to try to keep this thread updated every so often when I feel like it on the progress of my grow.

I've decided to grow my own marijuana because there is too many people that are out to try to make a quick buck off and skimp me for their own personal smoke. I mean, I work for my money just as hard as everybody else, yet people here where I live, people are always out to try and scam everybody and I'm tired of it. Why give them my business if I can't trust them?
I don't know how it is where you live, but here in Iowa, it's just a bunch of bullshit all the FUCKING time.

So thats why I've started to grow my own stash.

I had an old dresser upstairs and thought that would be the perfect place for it. It is 40" height by 30" wide and 15" length.

I wanted this dresser to be a grow box, but the first 3 drawers still usable to make somebody think it's a normal functioning dresser. I then took the bottom 2 drawers off and dismantled the wood and stuff that got in the way so that the bottom half could be hallow for my plants. I had this 24" fluorescent light lying around and got it setup inside. I then setup an outlet with a light inside the dresser. I have the main cord fed in through the bottom backside of the dresser to make it not as noticeable.

I setup everything else inside and germinated some seeds to about .5 inches and planted them in some potting soil and added them into the dresser. Today I added a PC fan to the dresser and now have the plants mildy blowing around. I currently have a CFL that claims to eliminate odors for later stages of growing. (They are used to help eliminate odor in a piggery, so they should be capable of eliminating the stench coming from the dresser)

My plan is to grow 4 marijuana plants to about 1 foot tall and then switch the light time to 12/12 then remove all the males and hopefully end up with 2 females to grow some buds for smoking!

Suggestions are welcome. :smokin:

Any idea what temp that tube burns at?

for a CFL you'd want 5000k-6500k for vegging and 2700k for flowering.

Once those get big in a few weeks i'd suggest more light for a bigger yield. Looks like you got 4 plants there which means you should only count on 2 to produce you any bud.

The local Lowe's or Home Depot will have the CFL's you need, I'd suggest 3-4 minimum, maybe more when they get bigger. You could probly just mount a cheap surge protector and plug the bulbs directly in with a couple adapters.

What light cycle do you have them on? I'd suggest 24hrs a day until they get their 3rd to 4th set of leaves then switch them to 18-6.

I do not know what temps it burns at right now. The compact CFL i ordered is 2700k, but I don't expect that to overpower my fluorescent tube. I also have a 400watt(?) MH light that I might use. It currently isn't inside my grow box because it gets pretty hot and I need better ventilation for that to be inside.

I did plan on keeping the light cycle in 24/7, but now I am considering the 18/6 once they reach they're 4th set of leaves. Why would I need them set to 18/6? To promote root growth?

Also, they are just started to grow their 2nd set of leaves and I planted them about 10 days ago.

It's now been about 13 days since these were seeds and about 9 days since I've planted them. I'm still waiting on more fluorescents to come. Below are some pictures of progress.

Also, can anybody identify the light in the 1st picture. It get's very hot and I am still deciding whether or not to use it in my grow box. The glass lens that covers the light get very hot that if you drop a little water onto it, it will steam immediately. :wtf: edit: haha nice gravity

Get rid of the halogen lamp. The only use I've ever found for those is in the middle of flowering and you need to remove the glass plate for it to be worth any results, primarily from the UVB output.

I just have noticed from experience, 24/7 until the 4-5th set of leaves then put them on 18/6 until you wanna sex them. You can keep them on 24/7 for veg but it's just not worth it IMO. I've actually seen a growth spurt after giving them a night cycle, they seem to always respond well to some rest time aka 18/6.

Yes i would get rid of that halogen light, produces way too much heat for what you want. Go with just CFL's and you won't be disapointed. For vegging shoot for 5000k or 6500k rated CFL's and 2700k for when you are ready to flower, which at this point, is a long way off.

Home Depot and Lowes sell 4 packs of CFL's for like 9 bucks i think, by far the best deal you'll get anywhere. Just make sure they are 5000k or 6500k or you could do both.

How many watts will work for growing some plants. I don't have a lot of money, so I am shooting for the lowest wattage. :p I might get 4 6500k 45 watt CFL's that put out 2800 initial lumen's each, will those work fine?

I read somewhere that making some-what of a spiral with the stem and then bury it and then they could turn into roots. So that is what I've done. Also, the reason for so much stretching is because I originally sprouted all these seeds under a old fishing aquarium florescent tube. But now I've gotten and am getting better CFL's for vegetative.

For the pictures below I did a spiral with the stem very gently and held it there with a tooth pick, I then put tied a string to one toothpick, then with the other side of the string - tied to another tooth pick and pushed the 2 toothpicks into the dirt by the stalk and pushed down and had the string between the toothpicks hold down the stem to prevent the stem from trying to push up. I then buried the stem. I did this to 3 of the 4 plants.

Day 26:
I've started to add some nutrients to the soil and since then the plants have had quite a bit of growth. I also cut down the sides of the container I was using to hold my main plant. I hope this helps those lower leaves get more light.
