I thought this was interesting...

A New Kind of Medical Pot Eliminates the High on Health Video (http://topics.healthvideo.com/m/30711349/a-new-kind-of-medical-pot-eliminates-the-high.htm)

Does anyone know what strains are best to treat someone who has cancer in thier bones?

We are not lab rats, CBD is not what gives all or even many patients relief. Oh it's an essential part of cannabis, but thc is the most essential.

I think a big part of the therapeutic value of marijuana is the high. The high provides a distraction from nausea or pain. My own experience indicates that the mental diversion provided by the high keeps me from dwelling on the discomfort, and thus lessens the acuteness of suffering. For nausea in particular, a medicine without a high would be of no use to me.

Jesus. Like sex without the orgasam....Like the sky without the sun....like dropping a brick on your foot and feeling no pain...like swinging for the fence and hitting a pop fly... what are we comming too. Weed with no high??? Where do I sign up? NOT.

I bet if we put out mind to it we could restore the high part. Wait a minute, let me put this on my list of things to do.

1) Make sure what you smoke gets you HIGH.

Done.

You all have a point, I love a good high...it calms my nerves after a hard day.

Personally as someone who deals with just pain, I would like to try something that could take away my aches but still leave me able to get stuff done during the day.

If this new strain can do what it says it can, than I will be first in line when it gets here.

Donna, if your patient doesn't have a preference, I'd suggest a variety of different types and let them be their own guinea pig (lab rat.) Cancer patients have many different symptoms to combat; extreme pain, nausea, difficulty sleeping, etc.

If you're seeking a higher CBD content (outside of flying to Oakland, CA) I'd suggest landrace indicas for your patient. Commercial varieties have very little CBDs, they've been unintentionally breed out of the plants due to it's anti-THC effects. Higher CBD varieties like the ones available in CA are of no interest to recreational users.

Higher THC varieties are probably most useful for their ability to impart a mental cheerfulness. But, in combination with cancer drugs, a little THC goes a long way, least they become uncomfortably high.

CBDs, according to scientific peer-review studies, are association with anti-inflammation, reducing spasms, anti-anxiety, anti-nausea, (to inhibit cancer cell growth by inducing 'apoptosis' or controlling the spreading - metastatic cell growth - the most extensive and positive results seem to be for breast cancer. Do not misunderstand - this is NOT a claim for cancer cure. Studies in this area are in-vitro or petrie dishes, not on living humans) and supposedly CBDs give you the munchies.

THC is most often related to pain relief and I suppose that's best in association with some CBDs as most pain is due, at least to some degree, to inflammation. (I also suspect THC is the cause of that aphrodisiac effect especially among the fairer sex when ingested.)

The most extensive scientific studies published to-date on the effects of THC / CBDs in living humans, has been done by GW Pharma Limited (GB.) They've spent millions of dollars on human testing (NOTE: no testing done with smoking.) These studies suggest the best ratio for medical purposes is 50:50 - THC:CDB. There's huge amounts of info on this company, its products and their studies on the www.

The highest CBD varieties that I'm aware, that are commercially available, are Soma A+ (aka Rock Bud by Soma Seeds) and Pineapple Thai available by clones in CA. These have been tested for their THC:CBD content in labs. But these are NOT the high CBD varieties being discussed in the media. Those have a much higher CBD content.

I'm afraid it will be many years before the high CBD varieties offered in CA dispensaries will be available from seed. These genetics are extremely rare, in high demand due to their media attention and hoarded by those who have them.
