Help with my glass pipe...

Hey, I got a glass pipe today and I was hoping to get some info about these pipes ^^ I was just wondering how high does a glass pipe get you and mainly a couple of questions:

1. When I start to light, the glass heats up resulting in burning my hand/fingers so I figured I'm probably doing it wrong XD How do I light without burning myself?

2. I bought 10 pipe screens, but they're too big and just fall into the pipe vertically. What shall I do about this?

I have a 2 spiral clear glass pipe. I've attached a pictures of it so you can see what I mean a lot easier :)

Wow never smoked a pipe like that. I use a bubbler or a bong. Seems like it might be a bad design if the whole thing is heating up and burning your fingers. How high depends on what you are smoking.

Glass looks abit thin,hence why its getting hot.it cant dissipate heat fast enough.:jointsmile:

Yeah, the glass on that looks very thin, so it would make sense if got too hot. As far as screens go, I've never used one in my many years of smoking. Many smokers do what is called a "plug nug" which is basically a piece of bud bigger than the hole in the bottom of the bowl. You put it there to keep the smaller bits from going through as you inhale, and when the bowl is done, it'll pull through- be careful! It can get into your mouth and taste like shit.

Bowls get most people moderately to very high. Bongs tend to give bigger more voluminous hits at one time, so they can really get you wrecked. Eating brownies is also a very strong, long-lasting stone. Joints are pretty nice, too.

So is there anything I could do about it getting so warm?
And I can't do a 'plug nug' because it's too deep and when I try to light the medication it the flame probably won't reach :(

Get some scissors, trim the screen

or

Plug nug ... the idea ... plug the hole with a nug and then top off the bowl, you bury the plug nug with broken up medication , so you light the broken up stuff, by you sucking in on one end will draw the flame down and burn everything you have put in bowl

Hot to touch ... try getting a big paper clip ... bend it straight again ... then carefuly wrap it around a secure spot on the pipe ... you can hold onto the two ends of the paper clip.

i would prefer to use a screen for that piece than a nug to block it. if the screens are too big, good, if they are metal screens. First, i like to use the gold plated steel screens, unless its a regular bowl where the nug plug would work, i would use glass screens.

But yours seems like a job for metal ones. and when you want it to fit right, you place it over the top of the bowl, like a hat almost, flat though. and then with the finger that would fit in the hole, like a pinky or pointer finger, push it down, so it makes a kinda semi-circle that wraps around your finger as it goes deeper, then when it is deep enough, remove finger, and screen should stay in place, and is removable with tweezers, paper clips, toothpicks. It may not want to stay in when it is so clean. But if you smoke right after and dont loose the screen the res will hold it in place after that and you can turn your bowl this way and that.

I tried that paperclip thing but to no avail :( Any other ideas? :)

And yes it is a metal pipe screen. I've tried jimmy8778's idea but again; to no avail. I've decided to try the old fashioned tin foil way, but even if that works, I doubt it'll stop the pipe from heating up :(

I'll post what I've found out once I've done this (which will hopefully be later tonight). If you have any ideas before then please don't hesitate to post it :)

Yes, piece means pipe. The pipe you have looks really thin and small. I would invest a few more dollars and get yourself a real pipe. Something with a real bowl and carb. That thing looks like it would get way too hot and way to easy to suck the herb through. And it does not feel good to have hot, burning ash fly into your throat! :thumbsup:

yeap,personally I would take it back.something that looks cool but is obviously not designed very well is a waste of money and time.A well made pipe that is actually functional will last you a longtime if you take care of it. just my 2 cents.

Whenever I buy a pipe and thats pretty often because I collect them,I always look for certain aspects I want it to have,i'll use a spoon pipe as my basis.

1. I like to find out info about who made it,specifically if it was made local or not

2. How does it feel in the hand,if its not givin me the feelin' of wow this is nice put it down ;)

3. give it an inspection especially in the bowl area,make sure the glass isnt full of bubbles(they can potentionally cause weakness in the glass)Also make sure the hole in the bottom of the bowl isnt too big.

4. look at the diameter of the holes at the mouthpiece and carb if they are too small dont waste your time,if they are decent sized it will hit better.

5. does it look cool (of course thats important,but not if its a dysfunctional piece).

6. everyones idea of a great piece will be different,but everyone should care about quality,guess its the engineer in me.

All this time you have had to deal with this piece has kept you from what you really wanna do and thats toke up,take the bad egg out of the equation and get something different.

Well how clean is it? soak it up in some rubbing alcohol so it looks like you didnt use it ;) probably also depends on the shop you bought it from what their policies are. The shop I generally go to will replace any piece I have an issue with but ive been going there since they opened.

Also, you shouldn't have to use kitchen pot holders to smoke your pipe . . . ;)

I don't see what the big problem is it is a interesting piece, but looks flawed. that doesn't mean you have to toss it its still a piece as in a piece of art. I would use a bigger screen or trim the screen or even crumble a screen as a plug screen. might not be the best but I see nothing wrong with it. the design is flawed in my opinion in it has no evaporation chamber to cool smoke rapidly which means all the way through the pipe will get warm and the smoke will be warm, but there are ways around that, put a small ice chunk in your mouth and I bet it will be a pleasant smoke. I think it looks cool, just funky

some people think that metal pipes are ok....cause they are generally cheap. But I personally think they are crap! no offense! They get too hot when you smoke them and they make the weed taste like metal. I love the taste of my ganja and don't want it ruined....i say glass all the way! You can find glass pipes for just as cheap, but if you spend a few more dollars, you can get a quality piece that will last you for years and years! :jointsmile:

I agree,I dont really like metal pipes either but I have one. I call it frankenstein because its made from pieces of about 4 different pipes to make it even worth using. I originally got it to use in my car,and I rarely use it anymore nowadays.If you must use a metal pipe and you dont want your hands to get hot,get a piece of airline hose(the kind used with air compressors)just make sure the inside diamter is the proper size and slip that over the stem piece you hold while tokin' and your hands will be very happy.:jointsmile:

I tried my friend's metal pipe once and I didn't get high of it, then again if I remember right I didn't take that many hits... However, if I got the chance to get a glass pipe instead, I would get it (hence why I got this one). But apart from the one I bought, there was no other glass pipes in that shop so I guess I have to get the metal one =/

Lets not forget as with any glass piece,you will want to protect it while your not smoking it,so grab a good pipe case too. I prefer the Vatra brand ones.They have every style you can ever want and alot of colors and patterns. I have one for every piece in my collection including bongs and water pipes.:thumbsup::jointsmile:

I can't see how the delivery system could stop the effects of cannabis unless it had a filter system or something.

I have a really sturdy (and pretty green-colored) wooden pipe. It is VERY useful for traveling, as the pipe actually has a lid attached to the back of the bowl, and can swing on the axis of a small screw. So I just pack my bowl, swing the lid around, and I don't have to worry about weed falling out :)

Metal pipes have a bad taste and heat up WAY too quickly, in my opinion. I'm always for a nice glass piece. I have a very thick blue glass pipe about 2.5" long, and it's great for shorter car trips; this beautiful bowl fits perfectly in my hand, and hits great!

...Unfortunately, it's stuck in the interior passenger-side door panel- my friend dropped it down there about two years ago. When that car is totaled, I'm smashing the SHIT out of that panel to get my baby blue back :stoned:

lol tell it like it is? wtf does that mean its a fukin pipe you do know theri is no wrong way to toke a pipe. if its underwater and he gets tokes off of it then it works fine. I am a fan of glass too doenst mean they all have to be perfect. Tell it like it is haha I would tell it like it is but I will get banned and I like this place so smoke on with what ever you got a paper, a pipe its all better then burning a pile on the beach.

Finally I managed to trade that pipe for another pipe, unfortunately it was metal because that was the only thing they had other than what I bought originally... And I see what you mean by the taste is crap; it tastes... metally and harsh if that makes sense... (?)

I wanna get my hands on a glass pipe... But I wanna buy from a shop so I can actually take a good look at it... But unfortunately there isn't any shops that sell those type of pipes that I can find in this area of the UK =[

2 things about metal pipes.
1. the type of metal matters, if it's copper, or brass you will get lockjaw.
2. metal accualy conducts heat better then glass, and burns the skin worse.

I would have stuck with the first pipe. anyhoo

1/2 piece of duct tape arround the mid section will give you a spot to hold on to. take the screen and make an indent with your pinky so it looks like a bowl, then press it into the pipe bowl very carefuly. sure the tape looks like crap, but you wont burn your self.
