Former GOP Guv of New Mexico tells us: Legalize and tax pot in California.
May 31, 2010
The former Republican Governor of New Mexico stopped through San Francisco yesterday to talk about marijuana. Specifically, former Gov. Gary Johnson was in the state in support of the measure on California's November ballot to tax and legalize the cannabis.
You gotta love a governor -- who is a former marijuana smoker -- who can dish out a punch line like: "You smoked some LSD weed when you should have smoked some beer weed." See the below video for the set-up.
Johnson wants the federal government to tax and regulate the magical herb. He remains the highest-ranking elected (or termed out, in this case) official to take this stance.
Oh, yeah, and he's putting his toe in the presidential campaign waters. But you didn't hear that from him. For now, he's about his organization, Our America.
Yes, we'll repeat that. Republican former governor advocates legalization/taxation of marijuana and wants to run for president. No, we are not indulging in an illegal substance before our Memorial Day barbecue. The Governor stopped by the home studio of Shaky Hand Productions recently to talk dope in person:

I wonder if this Republicrat blasted marijuana while in office and now changed? Republicrats must move away from their prehistoric (oppresive) social positions to remain relevant They wont be able to ride the anti-Obama wave forever.. Abortion is up to the WOMAN now, its over.....I dont like how it was settled, but thats a law that shouldnt be touched. They better chage their tune towards homosexuals getting married and adopting children also......it keeps me awake at night thinking of innocent kids being denied a family or a home or a bed cause the two GROWN adults are Gay. So sad.

No, I'm pretty sure he has always supported freedom for cannabis consumers, from what I remember of him. but others would likely know better. How about New Mexico, anyone know what he was like as gov?

Dude.......I am not a Republican....ive said it a thousand times. Hated dumb-ass Bush....even had the "some village lost its idiot" bumber sticker....IN TEXAS.....thats balls. I voted for Obama....the campaign Obama....not actual Obama who is just another tax and spend liberal to the left of international clown Jimmy Carter. Obama had a actual shot to make some alternative changes for the better here and he BLEW IT BIG TIME. Obama, like all the rest got sucked into the big buisness, lobbyists, and sold out faster than Arlen Specter and that sucks.

Right...Whatever you say....If it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck... guess what? It's a DUCK!
As for who you voted for... don't feel bad.... lots of my friends voted for Bush...but they will never admit that to anyone...now.
Kinda pisses you off... tied to G.W.B...might as well get good and used to it.
Remember the expression "good from far, but far from good"? Describes the tea party to a T.

As for Gary, never heard of he dude. Until now. Googled him. Unelectable as a Republican. Too progressive. Would not want to see him as a third party canidate. He would (I think) get more votes from Dems than Reps.

"During a May 2010 appearance on Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report", host Stephen Colbert hinted at a possible presidential campaign, to which Johnson laughed and proclaimed that the notion is not plausible as he is a supporter of the legalization of marijuana." :D

yeah, I remember him now after seeing his pic. This guy has ALWAYS been on our side. and really, aside from this one issue, he seems fairly conservative to me, at least fiscally. but, unfortunately, you are right. there is only one issue that most people will look at when they decide where he falls politically. If he can win the nomination I think he would win the general election. :twocents:
"He is the chairman of a 501(c)(4) organization called the Our America Initiative. The focus of the organization is to speak out on issues regarding topics such as government efficiency, lowering taxes, ending the war on drugs, protecting civil liberties, revitalizing the economy and promoting entrepreneurship and privatization."
