View Full Version : DIY Clone Box - LED

I've got tons of stuff lying around, so I decided to build a clonebox.

Equipment:

Hot Glue Gun
50w LED panel
(2) 80mm fans, 12V .15A each
12V 500mA AC-DC adapter
Cardboard

I used the totally useless-to-me UPS Express tubes I had spare. I used four of them, three to make the triangular box (The self-sealing helped with rapid construction,) and one to cut out and make the top of the box, which was hot-glued in place.

I cut out two 65x65mm ports, one about eight inches from the bottom and another on the same side about 15 inches from the top. One pulls in, one blows out.

I fixed the LED panel to the top of the box by knocking out three holes for the mounting bases to slip through, then used simple cuttings from a straightened wire coat hangar to keep it in place.

Plenty of room for about 18 or so large clones, temps stay steady at about 76-78 degrees, depending upon room temp in my office.

Took about 10 minutes to build, tops. Good to go for many years, now! I'll eventually reinforce the vertexes with a plastic skeleton, but for now, it's solid and doing the job!

looks cool...let us know how long to sprout roots

I'll wager since I'm doing nothing special besides Brita-filtered water, rockwool starter plugs, and regular Schultz Take-Root that it will be around two weeks for root-shoot. Well, for the pictured cannabis clones. The tiny pomegranate and two rosemary cuttings on the right might take longer.

Really 2 weeks, whenever I've used a bubble cloner its a max of about a week.

Looks awesome though, seems very light tight, but I guess with the massive amount of ambient LED light its hard to distinguish.

It's about as light-tight as I can make it, though I screwed up in early construction stages and there's a patched hole (hot glue and masking tape) on the other side where I had mis-cut my fan hole.

And yea, if I had a bubble cloner, a week or so max likely. But without the cloner, I'm just doing regular water, so two weeks is about my norm.

I wonder if I could get bubble cloner results by just heavily oxygenating the water in the tray.

I love the extreme cheap-ocity of the box, mon, and the huge amount of light you're pouring into it. I am in the process of building a bubblecloneseedler, and you've now got me thinking about putting it in its own box!

Hmmm... I wonder where the nearest F3d#x depot is... ;)

I would almost recommend it! :)

Any good long boxes that you can hot-glue or duct-tape should work!

I mean, ultra-cheap cloning box area. Lightweight panel, no stress on the roof or load-bearing sides. Cheapo computer fans, and the thing keeps temps +1 +2 above RT. Even with the panel WAY up there, the plants are still nice and compact.

So it's just been past a week now. No roots showing but some leaves changed color, fell off, while the rest are still nice and healthy. Looks like a couple of them are wanting to flower REALLY badly, too. Best bet, they're all well on the way to rooting, if they haven't rooted already and I'm just waiting for the roots to pop through the cubes.

50 watts of LED ? although I've never used LED's this seems like to much light for cuttings trying to grow roots. how far away is ur light from ur cuttings and what are the dimensions of ur box ? they do look very healthy .,

The light is about 3 feet away from the tops of the cuttings. It's not too much at all, really. They love it.

Ha! I've already got roots on some of the clones!
