Hi all,
You guys have been great so far so here is yet another noob question for you:
What is the best way to hook up my fans and lights?
I have 2 6" vortex fans a meter long odor filter and a 1k light with hood.
Can I
A: have the odor control be my lights cooling air, filter then a fan, then light, then the last fan and out?
B: or must I use two separate air systems for both?

What are others doing?
I scrapped (planted in the woods :) the nute burned babies from my last post and am starting over.
I have read the http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-growing/132514-noobs-guide-growroom-set-up-work-progress.html link but don't really see if this is a viable way to hook up the fans.

Thanks again,
Buz

What is the CFM rating for each fan?

I don't think A is going to work. That just sounds odd. You may be able to do filter > light > light > Fan > Out.

If it were me I'd run closed system for the lights: In > light > light > Fan > Out. And a separate odor system: Filter > Fan > Out. Note that under this configuration you must ensure that the duct servicing the lights is air tight. Otherwise you will end up pulling odor through the lights and out.

It seems to me that most professional growers separate the lights entirely from the venting in the room. They suck into the lights from a duct not located in the room. Suck in from attic and then back out attic for the lights. Venting in the room is for a different reason which is to control odor. SO the only way that will work is if you suck in from your room, through the scrubbers and then out of the room. That's the only way to remove the odor with the equipment you have. Suck from within the room, through the scrubber and then out of the room. If you don't want to run a separate line for just the lights, then suck from the room, through the scrubber, through the lights and then out of the room. This way your lights wont build up stinky odor or cause any other issues. The air will be scrubbed before going through the lights.

The down side to not separating the venting for the lights is that the "cool" air your using to cool the lights is actually hot air that's been sitting in the room. This is why if you want cooler temps, cool the lights with fresh cool air not from within the grow room and then deal with your odor issue separately.

Yes but note that some growers scrub the room air but blow back into the room. In other words, the scrubbed air never leaves the room. Obviously this does nothing for cooling lights. That would need to be a separate system. You see this in totally sealed grow rooms.

Thanks, that answers my question. It did look good on paper though :). Thanks again for great info and guidance.
