An April 15 ruling by the Oregon Supreme Court states that employers do not have to accommodate employeesâ?? use of medical marijuana. The ruling stated that although medical marijuana is excluded from state criminal statutes under the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program program, it is still considered an â??illegal drugâ?ť under federal law. About 26,00 Oregon residents carry valid medical marijuana cards, and 14 states, including Oregon, Washington and California, have some sort of law permitting its use. Should employees be allowed to use medical marijuana? What do you think?

Well, you know, deep subject.
If the job has any moving machinery, risks of injuring others, risk of loosing appendages, risk of an incident that will really screw things up...well, ya, I 'spect an employer is correct in that concern.
Conversely, if it is an office job putting mail in a slot or some safe thing like that, I see no issue. Not a bunch of jobs out there like that. Lets face it, it does carry risk of doing something stupid, especially for folks that just get high. I would sure as hell worry more about the drinkers on the job than the pot heads on the job.

Personally, I do believe in drug screening, but I do not think it should be based on cannabis usage. It really cannot screw a person up like other illicit drugs. It is a natural remedy, not a harmful pharmaceutical to say the least. The FDA approves of dangerous "medications" that fry the brain.
One who can maintain a well working status should be able to smoke all the pot they want.

Should employees be allowed to use vicodin???
.
That is such a truth, or percocet, or any other CNS altering substance. It is like they are trying to catch, not protect. This is about the only thing from the Regan era that I deplore having had happened. Increases unemployment a lot.
But, some jobs it is important to not have CNS altering substances on board, and if you have to test to assure this, then so be it.
