i harvested about 10 days ago and had my buds hanging and drying for about 4 days, then put them in paper bags in a cool dark place, then placed them in mason jars.....

the buds don't have that super sweet smell they had before harvest and right now smells like a teenie weenie bud smell but mostly a different weird kind of green-ish smell. is this a normal thing for the curing process? please any input would put my questioning mind to rest.

I know the smell you are talking about ... is it possible you harvested too soon?

the pistils were about 30-40% amber/orange colors.

I'd just smoke it and see...why the paper bags?

the pistals are often wrong tho Kuri.... a better way to check for harvest is to get a 30x magnifying glass and look at the trics... when those have turned 65% amber I harvest..

the buds should lose that smell as they cure. they most likely still have some chlofill(sp) inside them.

I agree with Marlboroman you donā??t harvest by the pistil color. The pistils will die off long before the plant is ready for harvest but at the end of the plants life cycle thatā??s the way it is in nature. Marlboroman I think you are waiting to long to harvest. When the trichomes turn amber the THC is degrading in quality. So harvesting at 65% is like over half of your THC has past its prime. I applaud your patience but I think you would do better if you harvest when they are at peak (cloudy) and only a few have turned amber. They will continue to mature through out the drying process.

thanks for all the responses and i know about the 30X magnifying thing, however i have not purchased those as i'm making this as cheap as i can so i decided long ago to just go by pistil color and bud look. the the method i decided to take.

thanks DYLAN for your answer, that was my main question i was looking for an answer for and assumed it was the chlorophyl and i also assume the chlorophyl will break down and the sweet bud smell will start to come back. i just wanted to confirm that theory with other people.

Yea Zandor you are corect. I have about 8 different strainss of weed that I buy, then something else comes along i buy that and then something else comes along and I buy that, etcc...

after a while i have at least 8 diff. kinds of weed at any given time.

While all of great quality, the stoniest buds show all the trics mostly milky cloudy. about 25% are clear.

The buds that are good, but not nearly as good as they look, alll tric heads are amber/browninsh.

As for the curing, the paper bag sounds great, but it also sounds like maybe they didnt stay in there long enuff. Before going into the mason jay, ALL but the mositure deep in the stem should be gone.

The mason jar, will force them to rehydrate a bit, but sounds like maybe a nother 3 -4 days in the bag will do wonders.

Make damn sure mold doesnt start in those jars. If the smell gets ammonia like or smells like green cat piss, put them back in the bags.

Happy Smoking.

waite i am a little confussed so do u harvest when the hairs are cloudy and 25% clear or when the crystals are 25% clear and the rest cloudy?

The colors of the hairs are only part of the cycle of the plants life. They change color by temperature and maturity at the end of their life cycle. The only true way to know when to harvest is to view the trichomes. Mature trichome looks like a golf ball sitting on golf tee, big and round on the top. The color is clear to cloudy. Cloudy is peak for that trichome. Because there are millions of trichomes you need to harvest on the average. They will continue to mature through the drying process for a day or more. Amber color is past prime for that trichome so you are just looking for an average.
