Title says it all..
I know that it was kind of a gray area before. Has 1284 clarified this?

My understanding is no. The reason being is your caregiver will have the right to grow for you if he wants it or not then if you grow also that gives double to plants. A no no in the sorry as bill

You can grow and have a caregiver.
"At the time a patient applies for inclusion on the confidential registry, the patient shall indicate whether the patient intends to cultivate his or her own medical marijuana, both cultivate his or her own medical marijuana and obtain it from either a primary caregiver or licensed medical marijuana center, ..."

you can grow YOUR SIX PLANTS and have a caregiver, but you may not be a caregiver and have a primary caregiver:
(c) A PATIENT WHO HAS DESIGNATED A PRIMARY CAREGIVER FOR
HIMSELF OR HERSELF MAY NOT BE DESIGNATED AS A PRIMARY CAREGIVER
FOR ANOTHER PATIENT.
from p46 of the bill.

That's correct. If you are a caregiver yourself, you can't have a caregiver.
If you're a patient, you & your caregiver can split your plant numbers.
This is what I do with most of my patients, as most want to be able to grow on their own someday. What I do is mentor them for their first couple of harvests, while we split their numbers. Once they feel comfortable, they either drop me as their caregiver or reduce the number of plants I can have (usually reduce down to 1, to keep me as a mentor). Now with this new regulation, I'm going to have to drop those patients of mine who I've been mentoring for a while and just have 1 of their plants as now they count against my patient number.

I don't see anything in that section of the bill that indicates you'd have to split your plant numbers... is there something in the definition section that lends clarity to this?

You don't have too, but you can.
