Man, I love my herb but I just got back from a hiking trip and this shit is killing my lungs! Does anyone have any long-term vape experience? I was vaping for awhile and it didn't seem to make any difference... I may have to switch to edibles only. Whoever says herb doesn't damage your lungs is full of horseshit! Fuck me, I'm as bad as a serious cigarette smoker wheezing for air on short vertical runs. I was fucking embarrassed hiking with this girl I'm trying to hook up with who is in good shape :(:(

I think it's the whole "inhaling combusted organic matter" that really beats the lungs.
Start smoking full-melt, you'll be fine.

I'm vaping more, got an Extreme Q and it works well.
Smoking without regular exercise is bad, the $hit builds up like you experienced. I ride mt. bikes, and if I go more than a week without riding I notice my smoking a little when I ride next, longer is worse. If I ride a couple times a week it's not bad, but it does limit oxygen transfer in the lungs a little bit. I've quit for periods of time to compare... basically, if you're going to smoke, get out and do aerobic exercise at least 2x a week, it's good for you and your lungs. I'll hold out on recommending the vape, it works great but I'm not convinced it's so much better for you, but others have said it helps a lot... so we'll see.

You had your vaporizer set a bit too high! I have used cannabis for over 40 years. When I bought a vaporizer (Vapor Brothers), my lungs were a mess. 2 weeks later, my lungs were clear! If you set your vaporizer too high, you cancel a lot of the health benefits!
Edibles are good. Slow to come on, but a longer time of effectiveness than smoking. Just don't eat that second brownie until after 3 hours have passed! (voice of experience talkin' here!)
Some folks make various types of capsules with cannabis (dry herb, oils, mixed with coconut butter, etc). Capsules have the advantage of being very discrete- you can use them anywhere, but like edibles, they take a while to take effect.
And there are tinctures of several varieties- they work faster than edibles when applied to the lining of the mouth. Run a search for "Green Dragon"! Or just get the highest proof vodka you can find and stick cannabis in it. Let sit in a cool, dark place for a week or more, strain, and you're set! Not as good of a product as "Green Dragon", but still effective. :)

That's the truth. When I was working 60hrs a week as a auto tech I could smoke blunt after blunt with friends and still go skiing every weekend for 8 hours and kayak/kabrewing in the summer. I was doing a lot of physical work 6 days a week and smoked roughly 5 bowls every day with the master tech. Talk about a fun job :D but anyways its all about staying in shape. If you don't ever exercise and you smoke a lot, a short 1 mile hike will try to kill you. :stoned:

Do you set the vape so the vapor is visible? (I use bags) I find that if it's not visible, it's not strong enough. I usually fill 2-3 bags with slightly cloudy vapor before it tastes bad. My leftovers are medium brown... does that sound about right?

i have never smoked and that is why.not only are you inhaling the combustables you are also inhaling butane if you use a bong or pipe....this inflames lung tissue and also the blood vessels..no good anyway you look at it.

There are other methods of lighting a bong or pipe, don't have to use butane.
Stormcrow, you might cancel a lot of the respiratory benefits from vaporizing at a high temperature but the medical benefits (CBD in specific) are acheived from vaporizing at higher temps. Low temps ie hardly any "vapor/smoke" primarily vaporize thc with little to no CBD. It's more of a head high.

Thanks for all the advice guys, especially the exercise. That's what's doing it. I haven't been very active the last 8 months and I've been smoking more than ever. I think I'm going to try to take the longest smoke break ever and start running then come back vape only.
I also find the vape to not be effective unless I really get some visual "vapor". My vape remains are dark brown like coffee grounds.

Ha, by the time I finish each bowl it's black! I can't really comment on how much better vaiping is than smoking cause I'm a LONG time cigerette smoker (23ish years) so any anicdotal advice I could offer (besides vaip more/smoke less) would be tainted due to the cig smoking.
I personally like how vaiping makes me feel. It's a lot smoother buzz and seems to work better on my pain.
Yes, I only smoke when I can't vaip like when I'm hiking.
If there are a lot of hikers out there maybe we could put together a hiking group. I just bought $200 worth of gear and am trying to get my GPS and boots (another $800). Right now, I just do the JeffCo parks and you can see the Google Earth overlay I made here (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1325057#Post1325057)on them. I'm also working on a 4ish day hike up to the head waters of the Colorado River. You can see that KLM here (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1319381). If you look real hard, you can see my pics at some of the parks.
My goal last year was to hike every developed JeffCo park and I missed my goal by 3. I lost the good weather before I could finish. If anyone is intrested hit me up at my work
[email protected]. I would LOVE company when I'm out on the trail but I am a VERY, VERY slow hiker and break often. My fav park is Reynolds Ranch (http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/openspace/openspace_T56_R18.htm)followed very closely by Centennial Cone (http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/openspace/openspace_T56_R95.htm). Honestly tho, amost all of them (except the ones in the city) are great, great parks that can take you in to the backcountry without being far from the city.
And just an idea to boot, maybe we could make a collective stop into see Mark at GM as we're out.

I use a cig lighter... was buying beeline but was going fast and just got to be a pain to keep up with it...
I use my bubbler almost exclusively now although up until 2-3 months ago it was all bongs (very well could be the problem). Smoke joints a few times a week. And out on the trails I just use a small glass bat...

Based on personal experience, disposable lighters bubbler/pipe combo is a very destructive way to smoke.
I used to wake up hacking and coughing at night... switched to a vaporizer and that helped. The problem though was actually the lighter. I'll bet you an eighth of my best chem 4 that if you switch to a torch-windproof lighter and use it with quadruple filtered premium butane, you will find much less lung problems after 1-2 weeks... the moke is AMAZINGLY cleaner. Disposable lighters are poison!!!!!! :rastasmoke:

You ever think you need to just be more active? Can't expect to be a marathon runner right off the couch. I quit smoking cigarettes this past X-mas, and I thought it would be a drastic change in my breathing ability. And it was substantial, but what really needed to be done was for me to be more active more frequently. I now either skate, bike, or hike at least 3 times a week and I'm blazin' past all my buddies that still smoke. Good luck with the girlie.

Gotta agree with those that are saying that being physically fit or unfit is a big factor in it. Of course the inhalation of anything besides air isn't the best thing for your lungs, but as a physically fit person who hasn't smoked a cigarette for a couple months, yet I have smoked sizable amounts of cannabis, I am comfortable saying, my lungs are doing extremely well and I rarely get out of breath any more.
High altitude hiking can be pretty rough on a physically unfit person by the way. Did some hiking in Colorado as a cigarette smoker, most unpleasant hike I have ever done :( had more fun in the Bisti Badlands in NM lol

Yeah, I'm thinking it's just because I've lead an extremely sedentary lifestyle the past 8 months. I used to run and all that shit... so I think I'm feeling the combined effects of laziness and extreme smoking.
Thanks for all the feedback fellaz... Now "there's got to be some changes made!"

I've been using my vape and smoking less often, when I smoke I use the beeline hemp twine/beeswax and the combination of the two is improving my lungs, most noticeably I cough less, even when smoking.:)

does inhaling on a vapor brothers, through the plastic tube that can get warm, cause any ill effects by inhaling heated plastic tubing??
just saying it should be studied what temperature can do to that plastic...

I have a Vaipor Warez with a sugical rubber whip. The bottom of the glass doesn't even get hot and I never notice hot air as I'm inhaling.
I, firmly, stand by my vaip. It's one of the best investments I've ever made.
